| I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I will have to try this with Tatum! It really is scary...and sometimes she does it so much that I don't think she will be able to stop...but of course she always does.

| Seymour does reverse sneezing...... Shelby does occasionally, but not like Seymour. It always happens during an exciting time. I usually pick Seymour up and calm him. It only takes a minute and he stops. I think it sounds like Tat is reverse sneezing. Maybe you can get it on video sometime.

| I hope she is ok! Diddy does something when he gets really excited and it scares me to death. I don't know how to explain it. He makes a snorting sound and it seems like he is trying to breathe but can't. I am interested in seeing your video to see if what they are doing is similar.

She also does it when she has her head tilted up, especially like if you are giving her a treat and she's up on her hind legs and her head is really up. ( I hope that makes sense ) We rub her neck or touch water to her lips and she calms down. Sometimes I think it scares her as much as it does us! She doesn't do it any other time either and she doesn't make noises when sleeps. I know it's a scary feeling, but obviously very common!

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi Brooke - ugh, I hate reverse sneezing - it really can be disturbing because, yes, it can seem like they're almost going to suffocate. It does sound like a reverse-sneeze-cycle to me. What I also find is that THIS time of year - IF your dog has any tendency toward this vulnerability - it worsens around allergy season (Check Pollen). Marcel has RS occasionally - but right now, with pollen off the scale - he's doing it more often - which makes sense bc if pollen bothers them, their throats/noses etc would be more irritated and vulnerable in general. That's my 2 cents - take it or leave it!

Thank you SO MUCH!!! ![]() I will still try and get a video just for the heck of it though. Of course, if I WANT her to do it she probably won't but hopefully if I get her excited she will....heck, she always does!

Actually though, with Tatum I know that it isn't a cold because she has been doing this snorting thing for a long time now...and anyone who knows me and Tate knows that the poor girl has been to the vet a million times in her short little life, LOL...so it couldn't be a cold because they would have caught it...plus shes been on meds and this "snorting" thing doesn't go away ![]() I'm praying that it is only reverse sneezing!

![]() I did just check the pollen levels here and right now we are medium-high 7.3 - 9.6 ....it doesn't surprise me. A few weeks ago we were in the red...HIGH She does have allergies so maybe this really could be contributing. I truly do hope that this is all it is....reverse sneezing and high pollen levels making it worse. I will try and get a video posted of her doing it so that everyone can hear her. Thanks so much for the help girl!

| YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | My Shadow does this too. He also has a shorter snout. I know he doesn't have a CT, but I've recently read that these "snorting fits" could be a sign of a heart murmer. I really hope it's not, and I plan to have Shadow x-rayed for this at his next appointment. Has anyone else ever heard of this being the cause? He mainly just does it when he gets excited (like when I get home from work) or nervous (like the vets).

Now I am worried about it being a heart murmur! I am going to have to go read up on this And hopefully someone here will have more information on it too...

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey does this too, and it scares me to death, the vet said it was nothing. It's definitely an excitement thing with Joey, I don't leave him much, but every time I do, I come home to a baby that seems like he's going to suffocate. I've tried many things, for example, ignoring him (this was sooooooooo hard). There are many articles on separation anxiety, and what to do for it, and that was the first suggestion, but it didn't really seem to help. Now, when I get home, I get down to his level, and talk to him calmly as possible. I try not to make a big deal of me coming home or act excited to see him, and then I try to detract him. He use to do this when his daddy got home, but it was never as intense, and it seems to have gotten better over time. I do think they can read our feelings, and if we feel intense, they probably do too.
