Hi Brooke - ugh, I hate reverse sneezing - it really can be disturbing because, yes, it can seem like they're almost going to suffocate. It does sound like a reverse-sneeze-cycle to me. What I also find is that THIS time of year - IF your dog has any tendency toward this vulnerability - it worsens around allergy season (
Check Pollen). Marcel has RS occasionally - but right now, with pollen off the scale - he's doing it more often - which makes sense bc if pollen bothers them, their throats/noses etc would be more irritated and vulnerable in general. That's my 2 cents - take it or leave it!
