| ![]() I haven't posted on here in ages. I have just been reading alot. Well, I have something that I have been putting off and I need to decide what to do. I previously had a yorkie named Toby. He was 9 when he passed away. He had kidney stones, went in for surgery and didn't make it thru the surgery. I was devastated! I posted here but that was a long time ago. I have a morkie named Morgan now. She is a blessing! I posted pictures of her when she was a puppy but not anything recent. She is a blonde yorkie. I love her color. She was a year old on March 2nd. I have put off having her spayed. I really think there is the fear of when Toby left and didn't come home. She is alot smaller then Toby was. He was too heavy. He weighed about 11 lbs. Morgan weighs 4.5 lbs. She also has a hernia that they will fix while they have her under. She hasn't had any problems with it but we may as well get it fixed at that time. I haven't made an appt. I just keep putting it off. Please tell me what to do! I know we don't want puppies and I know its better for her health to have it done but I just can't bring myself to make the call. Anyone have any advice? Someone give me a swift kick and tell me to make the call! Thanks for listening. |

I can understand your reason for being nervous. You have to remember though that it was a different cirucumstance. Your Toby was 9 yrs. old and he may have had other medical issues not known. Our vet prior to spay or neutering will run a routine blood panel to rule out any problems. It's pretty routine the spay. I know I was a wreck each time one of my girls were done. If it's any consolation Lilly my little rescue was done when she was only 10 or 12 weeks old. They did a pediatric spay on her. She could not have even been 2 lbs. We got her at 13 weeks old and she had been spayed already, and just weighed shy of 2 lbs. She came through fine. By the way I have a blond Morkie too. She's in my album and she's in my avatar with my Yorkie Bella. Elaine | |

| ![]() I would do a complete blood panel and maybe even an x-ray to check heart size. Also make sure the vet you are dealing with has experience with small dogs. Do they operate on a heated surface? use Isoflorine or Severflorine. Monitor heart and b/p and use something safe like Propafol to induce etc. I spent months hunting for the right vet for Feather because I was so scared to have her done. I finally found a vet an hour away to do a minimiumly invasive spay on her. He was great but I paid well for it. Anyway sorry, I didn't mean to write a book |

| ![]() I can understand your fear. Think about the millions of dogs and cats who get altered every year, who come out just fine. My Holly just got spayed, I was a wreck. She did great. Having a good outcome from this spay will help you move on and get over some of that fear. This is such a safe procedure, they use pediatric everything. Please get it done for her health if nothing else.

| ![]() I understand because I was so scared to bring in Sass in. They did her spay and a liver biopsy at the same time and I was a nervous wreck. She will be okay. Give Morgan puppy kisses my little Sass.

| ![]() I had two of my girl spayed at the same time and they are both 3 lbs. I would find someone that has done very small pets many times and uses a minimally invasive incision. My vet has spayed rats and she only used a 5/8" cut and used her finger to find the fallopian tubes not an instrument that can puncture other organs. Make sure they have an other vet or vet tech that monitors the anathesia, even if you have to pay extra for it. I'm sure she will come through fine also, so long as you do your homework! ![]()
