| HELP! Is This The Wrong Puppy Food? Wanting only the best for our new baby boy, Beau, I read that Innova is really good. Only place that has it here is Bed, Bisquit, and Beyond. They sold me Innova Evo Small Bites and said it's what all the Chihuahua and other small dog owners feed their puppies. Beau is only 1 1/2 lbs at 11 weeks and they said that he would do fine on it. Now I get home and read that it has no grain in it. I thought dogs need grains? Should I take it back...I really wanted the Chicken Soup but they didn't have it. He ate a little of the Evo and seemed to like it but I wonder if it's too high in protein for a Yorkie? Isn't too much protein bad for them? He was started on Eukanuba and I read that is not good food for them either. Please help this neurotic new mother.

| Karen, I can't help 'cause I know nothing about dog foods. Have you tried that little pet store on University?

| No, I didn't think of that one, Patty...Fish & Chirps. I was just thinking that Petsmart & petco wouldn't have it so I went to this new place...they board, train, and groom dogs. I read online that they carried the Innova and Chicken Soup. They just had the Innova, California Natural, and Platinum foods. The owner is a rep for Innova.

| Dogs do not need grains or carbs period. A little won't hurt, but dogs are carnivores and need mostly meat, bones, and organs. I feed absolutely no grains to my dog or cats, and their food has very minimal fruits and veggies. I don't like grain-free kibbles, however....lacks moisture that is very important and is overcooked and overprocessed. Dogs and cats need moisture, and those on kibble are more dehydrated than those on a moist diet. I suggest getting a grain-free canned food - Innova Evo or Nature's Variety Instinct

| Dogs do not need grain. It can be difficult for them to digest. That is what is added to the food when you don't want high protein though. I like lower protein for Yorkies while others like high. It is a personal decision. I would not feed high protein to a Yorkie without making sure its liver is okay first. High protein ahs never been shown to CAUSE kidney damage, but if diagnosed they need to be switched to lower. I am more comfortable with lower to begin with. Is this a puppy food or adult food?

It's supposed to be for puppies and adults.. so they said. It's 42% protein and contains turkey, chicken, eggs, apples, tomatoes, carrots and garlic. Also contains cottage cheese, alfalfa sprouts, dried chicory root, and about a zillion vitamins. Directions tell how much to feed a puppy. They don't have any canned food...I asked because I was going to get both. Maybe I should I just take it back...it's supposed to have an unconditional guarantee. Thanks everybody for your help. it's so hard to know what to get. I've always cooked chicken and vegetables for Ziggy ...he absolutely refuses to eat any kind of dog food. Quote:
Patty, it's 801 S Woodrow Lane...past the animal shelter and on the other side of the street.

| Since I started feeding mine Innova Evo, I have not seen them healthier looking. They love it and thier stools are not dry or too wet. Thier coats are shiny and thier teeth look clean and healthy. I was feeding them homecooked, but they were tired of it and they have been on Innova Evo ever since.

Are you supplementing for Ziggy? It is okay for puppies then. I did just look at their site and I think this food is a bit high in fat, especially for an adult if you would keep using it. That is a personal preference though.

Yes, my vet gave me Pet-tabs which I have to hide in his food. The vet said just wait him out...he hasn't seen one starve yet. However, Ziggy outwaited me...acted so pitiful when all he had was the different dog foods I tried. So maybe the Evo will be okay even though it's high in fat...I do want him to gain weight since he is so tiny. I hope he will mature at 4 or 5lbs.

| Chelsea is on Innova 28% protein but will not eat it, I'm hand feeling her a little and trying to use as a treats, I was feeding her homecooked, she also got tired of it. How did you get your little ones to eat Innova. Did someone say you can get this in a can.

| Please be careful feeding Innova canned. It has way too much fat in it and it may have given Ellie pancreatitis.
