| i just talked to the vet assistant and she said the patch is pain meds and to keep it on until tomorrow, it's located on her right side ribs, they shaved that area... she's shaking like crazy and when i told her that, she said she's probably trying to get attention... but shaking? isn't that a natural response to pain and not something you can fake? they gave us rimadyl and the vet assistant said that this was also some sort of pain meds as well as to treat inflammation. I decide to put some ice cubes in her water and she started drinking... she did pee twice yesterday and twice this morning... but poop'd only once when she got home around 4pm yesterday.

| I have heard of some dogs who attention seek - but since she just had surgery it could very well be a sign of something else. Pain, infection, fever? I don't know too much about this stuff. Are you home with her today? Can you cuddle her to see if she stops shaking - that would probably help you know if its attention seeking or something else. The medications and lack of eating will mess up her pooping schedule. Maybe she would eat a bit of rice and boiled white chicken meat? That might smell yummy to her and entice her to eat. Did they give you any antibiotics for her? |

| ya, i'm home with her today.. i decided to work from home so i can spend some time with her while she recoups... and i noticed the shaking when she was in my lap... but she fell asleep and it stopped, but then she woke up when my blackberry went off and she started shaking again... we initially didn't want to give her human food because we don't want her trying to eat our food when we eat... she is eating treats when i give them to her, and i bought treats with glucosomine in it to help her joints... I'll hold off till lunch since the vet assistant said she did eat when she was there with them... no antibiotics... does she need that?

| Punkin had 5 days of antibiotics when she had her surgery. Maybe your baby got some while at the clinic the first 2 days and that was enough? I would ask them though. Are they listed on your bill? |

| Oh poor Missy, maybe the shaking was just from the stress from the surgery and being away from you for so long. Did you get both legs done? I hope she is doing better today!! |

| I called around and turned out my reg. vet did it all the time and charged around $800. Had the first one done in august and two weeks ago the other went. I messed up big time. Two days after his surgery I carefully tucked him into his soft crate which has zippered openings on two sides and 4 hrs. later I came home to check on him and he was running around the house. I found the side opening had been partially unzipped and even with the elizabethian collar on he got out. I take him in the morning to see the vet as although he treats the leg normal, I see and feel a hard thing on the leg below the knee and think its the screw. He mentioned back in august that about 30% have to be redone in some way as the screw moves and I believe the incident did it. Anyway, I'd do alot of calling around and find someone who does this surgery often and I think 750-1000 is about the range. Good Luck and do a better job than me taking care of your baby. |

| Hi Everyone.. thanks for all your info.. the patch was for pain meds that is effective for 5 days... not sure the name, but it's probably what Kalina82 said it was.. the Fentanyl Patch. Anyway, i just read the post now that i should scrub the area.. unfortuantely I didn't do that and i was touching the center because it was all rashed up after I took the patch off... so Kalina, I did everything you mentioned NOT TO DO! ![]() We've kept Missy pretty much crated for the last several days and on a leash when she has to go potty... but for 3 days she did not poop at all.. i was totally worried, so i started giving her some apples and the day after i took the patch off, she did a good sized one and has been regular since musta been the patch!Bbrewser, Missy's not shaking anymore and we only did one leg since the other one has not shown any signs of LP... yet... ![]() Carlyb, OMG so how is your baby now? I hope everything is ok... i did see a pin in missy's knee so we've been extra careful with her... all her bruising is gone, but i can still see her knee is still swollen compared to the good knee... i can see already that she wants to run around and i feel sad that she can't be as active as she wants... but it's for her own good and i try to snuggle with her lots when i'm home! can't resist anyway!! lolPS - we want to shave her completely so her patches match!

| Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i know its hard to keep them quiet but the more you restrict her activity inside the better. crate when you can't watch her and on a leash when your with her. no running around or anything by herself. this should be for about a month. did your vet tell you to walk her three times a day?

| I took Stanley to his vet this a.m. and he said he's o.k. He said this knee will need the screw removed after a couple of months, since it has moved a bit, but he's walking fine when I let him. So I'm very relieved for both of us. Dr. Brandt at Westgate Pet & Bird did the surgery and this is Stan's decond Lp and I'm very happy with the vet. Good Luck with all your babies. |
