| Advice On Neutering! Hey everyone! I have to get Chloe fixed on Th or Fri and I am FREAKING OUT!!! I mean i am only 24 and i have grown up all my life with labs and schnauzers when I lived at home but this is actually my first one to own and take care of so I feel like a mommy! anyway...she is about 6 1/2 months old and she is sooo attached it just BREAKS my heart to think of leaving her there and her being put to sleep and have to go through surgery....and even worse..being put in a cage when she has NEVER been in one in her life. She is just not going to have a clue what is happening to her or where she is or her mom! What is yalls opinion on picking her up on the same day? I realllly want to pick her up that day bc once again...cant imagine having her stay in a cage all night and not knowing where she is! Has anyone had any problems after picking them up the day of surgery(like medical emergencies or anything?). Just let me know! Thank you!! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | My vet usually does the pickup at the end of that business day. Speak to him/her and see what they say. I think if the surgery was done early in the morning (which is what my vet does since it's a tiny) then late in the day is fine for a pickup. Good luck. Don't worry too much. She will pick up your anxiety.

| It's normal to be worried about your baby. It's easy to say everything will be okay to someone else but it's so scary when it's your baby. But, really, she should be just fine. Just make sure your vet is familiar with toy breeds and have pre-op bloodwork done to make sure she's perfectly healthy and safe to be put under. If you do those two things, she should be just fine. She'll be groggy, sore, and tired for a few days but then she'll be back to herself before you know it. So far as staying overnight: I would only leave my dog overnight if there was someone there monitoring the dogs 24/7. I would NOT leave my dog overnight if no one was there (even if the vet goes and checks once during the night).

My Little Man! Donating Member | OMG I feel exacly the same way!!!!! I have to fix my Maxi after his birthday which is on January 23 and I am sooooo scared! I defenately want my baby go home and not stay he would be so horrified. He is used to be home and no sleep overs. I am sooo nervous!!! Let me know how everything turns out. I also had dogs all my life as a kid but I am real mommy to Maxi because its my first dog since I am on my own.

| She really will be fine, just make sure your vet is familiar with small breeds. (like someone else said before). I would not leave her over night though, ask the vet and see if they can do the surgery early that way you can take her home that evening before they close for the nite. I am in the same boat, Otis will be getting neutered soon also, just as soon as my vet gets back in town. I am also worried, but I know he will be fine. Its easier on boys that girls I think. He will still be sore and groggy but I know he will be okay. It is stressful because he is my only baby, besides my older dogs and two of them are large outside dogs. He is just so little and cute. I think it is harder on the mommy that the puppy. Someone on here told me that when I first joined and was asking the same question you are.... They really are great here.....

| She will be fine, I'm taking mine in tomorrow morning to get spayed, she's 5 1/2 mos, and around 4 or 4 1/2 lbs now..My son and his fiance are taking theirs in tomorrow to, he's going to be neutered, and is a pound smaller than mine(they're brothers and sisters)...I'm not really worried about the spaying them at all, just don't like it that they have to stay all night.. |

I agree. There is no way I'd leave my dog overnight after a surgery if there was nobody there AWAKE watching. That would be like the staff leaving a human hospital at night and checking in every couple hours....not a good idea. If your vet office has someone there AWAKE the entire time then you might consider letting her stay. Then they can watch overnight. That being said, Ellie was spayed a couple months ago and her vet is open 24 hours. They release all spays the same day, which is fine. I decided to stay up all night with her just in case. Everything was fine.
