| Grooming Dilemna! Hey everyone... I need suggestions. Here is our delimna... Mia, our 1.5 yr old yorkie gets groomed by a lady that comes to our home. We are now looking into taking Mia to an actual grooming facility (because the lady who grooms Mia has a hard time fitting us in her schedule & she is ALWAYS running like an hour - 2 hours LATE!!! It has become quite an inconvenience). Here is the problem... Mia HATES getting groomed. She acts so terribly for the groomer (we have even tried leaving the house while she gets groomed...thinking she would be better if we weren't around. Nope, still a "wild woman"- the groomer says). I am really over protective of her, & hesitant to take her to an actual grooming facility, in fear she will act up, I won't be able to see how they treat her, she will be under much more stress b/c she is in an unfamiliar place, & I don't like the fact that at most places I have to drop her off early morning, & not pick her up until afternoon. Should I just let go a little & trust the groomers, or continue having the lady come to our home???? Do any of you have a yorkie that stresses so badly over being groomed...& what do you do? ANY suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance! |

| I wonder if she might be better if she is in an unfamiliar place. In their own homes they are king, in a strange place they are unsure, so they put up with more. Just like when you take them to the vet. At petco or Petsmart you can watch through the window, but they wouldn't know that you were there. I think I'd give another groomer a try, and see how it goes. |

| I went to visit a several grooming places before I decided where I wanted to take our Mia. I finally decided on Sniffany & Co (after visiting on 3 different occasions) - it's a store with clothes, bakery and grooming. They have a glass window so the whole grooming area is plain view!!! I specifically told them that I wanted to stay while she was groomed and they said "fine" but they did suggest that I make it for the first one in the morning - which I did. I went in the back with Mia and the groomer for quite a while, but then decided to go back in the front where the store was and browse around. I could see Mia & she could see me. It was great. She behaved better than when I groom her! They only charged me $30.00 and she did everything!!! I took a list that Vi posted so I could make sure I had everything covered (from anal gland expressing to plucking the hairs in her ears). I checked out a different groomer right down the street from me, and I could tell when I walked in that I wasn't going to leave my baby there. I could see that the tub was dirty and it was mostly large dogs (which I love) but I decided that I wanted to go somewhere that does mostly small dogs. Hope this helps. Best of Luck... </IMG>

| Call around to different groomers and find one that will allow you to be the first appt and then picked up immediately after...I did this and she kept Cooper for an hour and a half. I didn't wan't him in a cage all day. However, if the lady that comes to your house is doing a good job, you might consider keeping her, despite her lateness. I have taken my dog to two groomers...the first shaved him...I was horrified and the 2nd one (that let me come first thing and then I picked him right up) I think all she did was give him a bath and wave the scissors over him. If I could find someone to come to my house and they did a good job, I would wait all day (if necessary) for that I haven't taken Cooper to a groomer since (I can do as good a job as the two I have been to) and Carley came to me with a very short cut and she is taking forever to grow Good luck, hope you find a good one...I have just heard too many bad stories on here...I am skeptical there are very many good ones

| I take Piccolo to the groomer where I can stay inside and watch.
