| grooming frustrations Sorry in advance, I just need to vent! I have taken Jaxon to a couple of different groomers - the ones I really like are good, but they book so far in advance and I wanted to get him trimmed before we go away on Friday. I wasn't happy when I took him to the groomer at the vet - I swear they sedated him. He was so lethargic when I picked him up and brought him home. Today I dropped him off at 10am with a different groomer nearby. She has 20 years of experience and I figured it was worth a shot. I just called (it's now 1pm) and she figured another hour. She asked if that was ok and I said sure, I just don't like him being in a cage. She asked if I crated him and I said not really - I work from home so he's with me most of the day. She went on to tell me how I really should crate him and how they actually like it. How long does it normally take for your babies to get groomed?? I just figure if they say drop him off at 10am, then they should start/finish him then. Not work on 3 others dogs at the same time. Maybe I'm overreacting - I just hate when Jaxon is gone and I worry so much.

| I have tried a some local groomers there is one that I like BUT when I took my baby to her she was there for 8 hours I was pissed I waited for 2 hours in my car, I took my older ones to another place she said my female was hard to cut I didn't like that she is fine with me. Guess what I had to take her to the vet the next day she got sick from that place never again I will cut them or my husband will. |

| Well I picked up Jaxon - I asked for just a trim but there are spots where he doesn't even look like he was cut! I had to trim his little bum myself. He looks good but it doesn't seem like a whole lot was done. I'm going to stick with the place that I liked - just book well in advance. It's just very disappointing.

| My normal experiance with groomers is this. The better the groomer the longer it takes. If you are only getting a bath without trim, 2-3 hours should be the tops. If you are getting a cut, 4-8 hours. The really good groomers takes longer (in my opinion) because usually, they run the shop by themselves or the owner does the cuts and has employess to do the bath. The larger places like Petco/Petsmart has many on staff but they are not as experianced but they are quicker. I never use the vet. They don't usually have good groomers. TIPS: 1. Always take a photo of how you want your kiddo trimmed. There is very little margin of error this way. * If you get a cut you were not expecting, ask yourself is it a bad cut or is it a good quality cut but just not what you wanted. If the cut is good do go back to the same groomer and take a picture next time so they will know what you expect. Good groomers are very hard to find. 2. If it is a new groomer, ask to see the grooming area to see if it is up to your standard. 3. If you are looking for a groomer, ask if they do "Hand Sissoring" if they say no, they only use clippers and that means they are not very expericanced. 4. If you want your kiddo to get the best service, take a small treat for the groomer like muffins or coffee. They usually don't have time to eat and will appreciate your thoughtfulness - and your baby will get the extra attention they normally may not. 5. Tip well. It definitely will be rememberd for your next visit. Hope this helps! Any of us who has paid to have our babies groomed has all had at least one terrible cut. It will grow back!

| Here in NJ the newest thing is mobile groomers! It's WONDERFUL! They pull in your driveway and your dog goes in the van with them and BAM they're done! No other dogs to worry about, no distractions since they're only working on your dog, no stray hair from a Golden Retriever (love Goldens just don't want their hair on my dog - LOL) and best of all you can walk out and peek in anytime you want!!!! My dogs actually run out to the van with her!! They think she's the greatest thing since Mom...... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have a great Groomer I have used for 16 years on my other dogs. I have just started to let CAli go there because I was afraid to have her done. My groomer knows how I am and has Cali done in 60-90 minutes and knows I never shave or cut my Yorkies done. Even still evry time I take her (3 times) she asks me exactly what I want done and never does anything more. Ifeel it isd the same way as me going to the beauty shop if i went in for a trim and they shaved my head. If they can't groom her the way I want her then they need to tell me so I can make the decision.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OH wow. I would be PISSED if I thought my girls were ever sedated. We've had pretty a bad experience too. Back in Sugar Land Tx where I just moved from.... I had taken Chanel to a referred Groomer .... Her 1st visit went ok - but the 2nd time - She was whimpering on the way home when I touched her side . I was fuming at the groomer. I KNOW she hurt her. Chanel is an ANGEL at the vets & groomer so I know she didn't do anything to warrant being treated rough. I am normally easy going but hearing her cry turned me into MomZilla. I called them right away and spoke to her boss - and Chanel was never the same in the car after that - every time we went 'bye bye's' which normally had her jumping with joy - she'd be in the car whimpering and kissing me as I drove - she HATED going for rides. It took me 6 months of little car rides to nowhere to get her to forget her experience and I really hope that woman got in trouble. NO DOG SHOULD LEAVE A GROOMER Sedated or crying. and IF I EVER Saw that groomer again - I would still say something to her. I should have gone back there and made a scene in front of her customers - I wanted to but that just isn't my style. |

| In my shop we try to have the dogs in and out in two hours or less. One can make special arrangements to have your dog done in as little as a hour. But we are working on as many as three dogs at a time. While one is being prepped another is being washed and so on. So to have a mobile groomer come to your house and to work on only one dog it is about time. The time to drive to you house and to work only on one dog. The price has to be much higher. There are a lot of shops that take dogs in in the morning and release in the afternoon, this depends on how soon you want your dog back. Some of the dogs go home near evening. Now some people don't care when they pick their dogs up, but in our shop we do not want to keep them all day. They get stressed , they have to potty, they start to bark. We believe the best way is in and out, all of the dogs that are groomed in our shop are all hand scissored finished and I and my girls are very good groomers. So don't ever believe it takes all day to groom your dog, but if you haven't made your appointment in advance it might take some time to work yours in. And last there are a lot of groomers out there that should never be grooming, I wish you all the best!! Debbie Ray wwwsumtoiyorkies.com owner Best Friends Pet Salon Salem Oregon |

| I take Max and Abbie to a "pet spa" for their grooms. They both have the same groomer so I usually drop them off about 9am and they spend 4-5 hours there. A massage is also included in full service groom. I don't mind leaving them there for a few hours because we've been going there for the past 2 years and they just seem to love it there. They are so happy when I pick them up.

| Cool thing huh? I used a lady that does this, but she charged an extra $20 to come to my house, so I took my zoie to her since I was over her way anyway. She did an excellent job and was very thorough. She was there at the lady's house at 8:30 and was ready by 11:30. She bathed her, trimmed her all over, called it a "silouette" trimmed up her nails, ears, butt (which was being not done well by previous groomer) and she smelled good for like 5 days. I was SO impressed that the dog smell stayed away for so long. |

| I understand your irritations when it comes to groomers. I cringe when I think about having to take Sonny, Herc and Missi. I know I will eventually have to give in and go someday but I just can't find one I like or they like. Every one I've taken them to- either they didn't like them or I didn't. I have a friend in AL that just took her little boy (he weighs 3lbs) to a new groomer and she cut his nose hair off. But little Sam didn't act the same when she got him home. My friend later found out the lady that groomed him also sedates the dogs she grooms. My friend said it was illegal in AL. Our worry with little Sam is that she could have over dosed him. Now I am really cautious with groomers. I know there are good ones out there...I just can't find any in my area.
