| Can't get mats to stay out. Gypsy's puppy coat is matting up all over the place. She's almost 11 weeks, and she is all hair. I have been brushing her with a slicker brush every single day, twice a day. She hates it...but a slicker brush is the only thing that works and it doesn't even work that well. Every time I turn around her hair is matted again. The pinbrush does absolutely nothing...it goes right through her hair and doesn't catch a single snag - only the slicker works. The only way I can explain it is "twisty", her puppy hair twists around itself and creates little twistclumps (not sure if that makes any sense) but she has these twisted hair clumps all over the place (think doggy dreadlocks). Her hair is stick straight, so it's not a curly/frizz issue. I don't know what she is mixed with (Yorkshire Terrier Mix is what she was assessed as by the SPCA). Right now I am using Organic Oscar shampoo and conditioner. It seems to do the job, but surely there is something out there I can use to stop her from matting up so much? Thank you in advance |

| Puppy coat can be very challenging. Can you post a picture? I don't know if there is anything that prevent that much matting. She isn't wearing clothes when this happens, is she? By the way, your baby in your avatar is absolutely adorable.

YT 2000 Club Member | I had the same problem with Tatiana's puppy hair. I ended up trimming it with a scissors to keep it manageable. I know you probably don't want to do this but it would help to take off the ends that twist and tangle. Tatiana's hair is growing beautifully now and she will be 7 months in a couple of days. It doesn't matte very much and her coat is silky. When she was younger, I thought she was going to have a cotton coat because it was so curly and matted terribly. Her puppy coat is pretty much gone and now looking beautiful!

| I bought a comb at the CVS that is wonderful for getting those little mats out without excessive pulling of the hair. It is actually a teasing comb with 3 rows of bristles-the 2 outer rows are thicker, the middle row is a thinner, tighter comb. I couldn't get a picture to load, but here is a link to a photo. http://resources.shopstyle.com/sim/4...ttail-comb.jpg

| Thank you everyone. I actually did find my camera (for some reason I threw it in the "junk drawer" in the kitchen). I will get pictures of her today - we need to go buy batteries first. I'll be sure to get some of these little twist clumps in the pictures too. I brushed her around 6-something this morning (when she woke up) and already - only 5(ish) hours later she already has them forming again. With regard to clothing - nothing fits her yet so no, she's not wearing any clothes when this happens. The XXS is too big. I really don't want to cut her hair. Even though she is a Yorkie Mix - the groomer and the vet think she will have a coat like a Yorkie. I have no clue what she's mixed with (didn't get DNA done yet). Thank you for the compliment on Bella, Maximo. That one was taken 2 months ago, and I caught her with bed head as she was just waking up...she'd just finished her yawn/stretch routine when I snapped it. I've also received some PMs from a couple members with suggestions on types of brushes to use, and have ordered 2. I don't see much of a difference between them and the pin brush I already have (that doesn't work) but perhaps the pins are closer together or something, in these ones. Thank you again! |

| I'm not entirely sure, mimi. We got it at a pet supply store but I don't remember the brand. Also - we still haven't had time to go get batteries for my camera. My mother is coming to visit this week so I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to make the house look presentable. lol! |
