| Shaving pups ears My lil yorkie is 9 weeks old today and I am wanting to shave her ears to help them stand up. How much of the ear do I shave? Right now I have about 1/3 of the ear shaved and she looks funny bevause she is so fluffy and all. Her hair doesn't lay down, it's all over the place. Would it be better to shave the entire ear for cut the edges with scissors for now and then just shave 1/3 when she is older. She is in her crate now, so I will post pictures of her tomorrow when I get a chance. |

| I'm sure those more experienced will give you some advice. Caleb's my first Yorkie and he's only 14 weeks, I wouldn't of used clippers on him, so young (9 wks), as he had a lot to deal with, learning all about us, a new home, all the new noises and daily habits. But clippers are one of the things he will have to learn about. I've been letting him sniff them and hear then on, but not used them on him yet. How did your pup do with them? You are probably braver than me. Did you clip inside and outside the ear? Has it helped at all? Personally if I was going to do clipping, I'd stick to the 1/3 clipped and trim the edges with scissors.

| I've never had a puppy that young but I shaved the top 1/3 of all my Yorkies' ears, not the whole ear, though I've heard that whole-shaved ears have been recommended if an ear is not standing right. I just use a little beard-trimmer so it won't accidentally cut the edges of Tibbe's ears. Anytime I've looked at really good puppies from a reputable breeder, the top 1/3 of the ears is always shaved unless they are still infants.

| I shave my babies entire ear, starting at 3-4 weeks of age. I lighten it up as much as possible....I continue to shave the entire ear, until they are sent to new home at 12 weeks......(I also do their butts so they will not be collecting "dingle berries"!!) I do that to keep the ear light, they tend to go up and down when they teethe, and I dont want new owners dragging that baby to a grooming shop at that young, tender age! The ears will be in great shape until they do get baby to a groomer, where the top 1/3 of the ear will be correctly groomed. |
