I've never had a puppy that young but I shaved the top 1/3 of all my Yorkies' ears, not the whole ear, though I've heard that whole-shaved ears have been recommended if an ear is not standing right. I just use a little beard-trimmer so it won't accidentally cut the edges of Tibbe's ears. Anytime I've looked at really good puppies from a reputable breeder, the top 1/3 of the ears is always shaved unless they are still infants.
