| My baby is shaved! Simba is a 5 month old yorkie poo (a yorkie and poodle mix). He went to the groomer yesterday for his first cut and I told him to give him a puppy cut not too short and he shaved him right down to his skin!! Simba had beautiful hair and was really fluffy. He had no mats and his hair was well kept. Will he ever be that fluffy again!? And how long will it take for his hair to grow back? Also, are there many dangers of him being pretty much bald? I would appreciate any help. I am extremely upset and worried. Thank you. Last edited by Simba19; 06-26-2013 at 05:10 AM. |

| I guess it depends on the dog? My Logan's hair grows VERY fast, but he's 100% Yorkie. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | It will grow back. Please use puppy sunscreen for Simba. You do not want him to burn. Did you talk to the owner and tell them that you did not want him shaved you wanted a puppy cut?

| Thank you guys for the replies. And yes I did talk to him, but there's honestly nothing I can do. His hair is gone, it won't be back right away. It's just so sad, I don't know how I'm going to get over it. Simba hates his new look as well |

| I used to get my poodles shaved all the way down twice a year, they hated any sort of grooming so it was easier this way. They looked much better in a month or two, by 6 months their hair was around 3 inches. I'd use a shirt to protect him from the sun. |

| What a shame. Guess it's time to find a different groomer. Are you brave enough to show us a pict?? You don't have to if you don't want.

| Guys there is another issue. Simba received cuts on both his ears from the groomer and I observed for a day to see how they get. They got worse and one is turning yellow. He is constantly scratching his ears and shaking his head. I'm taking him to the vet right now, but does anyone know what I should do if the groomer does not take responsibility for this. Please pray for him. |

| You're taking him to the vet -- that's what you should do, so you're already on track. He may have a bit of an infection. I would just find a different, better groomer. As far as the hair growth goes -- DO NOT FEAR! It WILL grow back, and probably fairly quickly. My in law's have a Yorkiepoo and her hair grows super fast. They like to keep her super short because they don't want her to look like a poodle (she got a poodle coat after she lost the puppy coat), so they have to go frequently to have her fur cut.

| I was told by my groomer never ask for a puppy cut bc it is very close like a #2 or 3 on a dog It will grow fast. I remember once I called a mobile groomer to come and do Daisy and when she came out she was bald no hair even on her face her beard was gone and her fluffy little poodle puff on top of her head GONE!! I cried!!! She looked so awful but within 3 months it was growing back. I am sorry I know how upsetting it is.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Dog gone it, why do groomers not listen to us when we tell them specifically how we want our dogs cut? I guess I would write it in big letters in case they forget to listen to your instructions. I would not go back there. You are the boss, they should honor your requests. Now you have to watch your precious dog does not get sunburned. Oh these groomers. Get a home groomer and stand there and supervise like I do! |

| I have two Yorkies... a healthy, strapping, 10# Yorkie, and a smaller, 6.5 pound very fragile Yorkie who has 75% collapsing trachea. When my mobile groomer moved from my area, I searched for a groomer that would let me bring the boys in and let me wait while they're groomed so they wouldn't have to stay all day. Found one thru good references and took my sturdy guy in for grooming. He was cut kind of short, but it was acceptable, and I was grateful it took only an hour. The next week I took in my little guy. He shakes and coughs when he's afraid, and I explained his condition. No problem. But when I returned in an hour, my little guy was completely bald, save for a topknot and a tail pompom. She said he was so upset over the grooming and any attempt to work out mats, she decided to shave him. His chest was cut clear down to the skin! He didn't even look like a dog! more like a monkey! I kept my composure as I picked him up, but once in the car, cried all the way home. I know it's just appearances, but he seemed embarrassed by his nakedness. He's ready for another grooming, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. |
