My furkids Donating Member | Aaaarrrgghhh!!! Fleas!!! I have had a dog in my house for the past 7 yrs and NEVER had an issue with fleas...now I have 3 dogs and they ALL HAVE FLEAS!!! They never go outside and if they do I treat them with a natural solution that has been working...my neighbors yorkie had a really bad issue with fleas for quite while...he brought him over her a few weeks back and ever since then my dogs have had fleas...I have tried EVERYTHING!! washed and bleached toys, bedding floors, steamed the furniture and floors and then washed the pups with dawn...put on the natural solution and they STILL have them...we are leaving for camping on sunday...we are going to get flea bombs and bomb the house...I will wash everything AGAIN...I have to with the pups a flea bath before we go camping...don't want fleas in the trailer...just not sure which shampoo i should use...I feel so bad...I can tell they are uncomfortable...I need some suggestions on a good flea shampoo...in the meantime I am going to go Agway (they sell pet supplies) and buy a flea shampoo there I will not use chemical treatments on them....A quick response would be GREATLY appreciated...

| Not to be argumentative, but flea shampoos have chemicals in them too, sometimes worse than the topical treatments. I too would love to go 'natural' with my pups, but fleas are very determined critters and really the best and quickest way to deal with them is topical flea treatment. That said, you can further minimize and for safety buy only something from your vet, and have them figure the dose to each of your pups individual weights. I have to do this for Tink, who has Liver Shunt, bc I don't want her to have any more chemicals than are necessary to do the job. I would not bomb the house, fleas mostly reside in carpeting and cracks in the floor. You can sprinkle regular table salt on the carpet, leave it set overnight, and vacuum and throw the bag out the next morning. Repeat 2-3 times. Also increase the times you vacuum each week, even every day till they're gone. Flea shampoos only work for a few days, and you will see more fleas before the time recommended to repeat the shampooing again. And be extremely careful using multiple, different products on them and around the house.

| i had this problem and tried frontline plus, advantix ii and neither worked. i got revolution and this natural power stuff michelle had recommended. i tried to find the earlier link.....it is natural and dries the fleas up. you can apply it to them, their beds and such. revolution and this powder finally got rid of the varmits...along with daily vacuuming. i didnt have a huge amount of the varmits but just one is enough to disrupt the whole household. good luck i hope the pups dont have any reactions and yes usually Cedric will show a reaction immediately. hope it works and they vanish and never come back.

| I'm like you...never had a flea problem with any of my dogs...ever. I don't use chemicals, monthly pills or topical liquids...we've just never had fleas. But, we did end up with a flea issue a year or so ago when we took in a little stray and he was covered in them so, of course, all of mine ended up with them too. I tried the topicals...didn't work I tried the 'natural' shampoos and sprays...didn't work I tried flea shampoo...didn't work I finally got a pill from my vet...Capstar I think...and, in combination with daily baths in Dawn dish soap...it worked No more fleas and my little crew was happy again The little stray left and we went back to our 'normal' routine of no chemicals and we haven't had a flea since. |

| I use Revolution. You may see fleas on them for a few days even after application. With an infestation, it will take time for them to all die off. But at least you'll be breaking the cycle.... flea life cycle. You can also use Diatomaceous Earth on the dogs and around the house, and in the yard. On tiny critters, it's like shards of glass cutting into them. Good for slugs too.
