WOW - maybe I'm wrong, and I hate to be the unpopular one, but in all honesty, I don't think it's a good idea to take a 13 week old Yorkie puppy on a 800 mile drive and vacation for 10 days. I'm not trying to be mean or attack you in any way --- but have you thought this out? How much does your puppy weigh? How many shots has it had? Will you be able to give it any kind of flea & tick protection? Will you be in a RV or a tent? On the days that you do go to Disneyland, will you take the pup with you? Do you have a stroller for it? Gez, all I know is that there is no way we could have taken our Mia on that kind of trip when she was little. We were told to keep her home and try to keep the amount of friends/relatives that visited to a minimum - to lessen the stress. She wasn't to go for walks until she had her 3rd set of shots. We don't have fleas or ticks out here in the desert but the vet said if we were even thinking about going to CA or anywhere where there was that we should start preventive measures immediately - and that was well after her having all of her shots. The diseases they can pick up from other dogs and animals is unbelievable! I would be uncomfortable with the stress that I would be imposing on a new little one. In the woods with little or no protection from fleas & ticks in the middle of June... Is there anyone that could watch the baby until you get back? Hopefully some more members with experience will reply to this. Good Luck on whatever you decide to do. I hope you have a nice vacation!

YT 500 Club Member | We have taken our little girl to the Black Hills and to Colorado. She barked at every dog in Vale and in Estes Park! She loves to travel. The one problem we have had with her when traveling was at Christmas a couple years ago. My daughter got us a room in a real nice hotel in downtown Minneapolis. It was pet friendly. However, she is trained to do her business on grass, and of course, there was no grass there. I walked her up and down the sidewalk out front with no luck. It was also about 10 below. The only time that we could get her to potty was in the underground parking garage in a puddle.. Thankfully, my daughter lived in an apartment with a yard, and she did her big business there. Also, we had planned to serve breakfast at a shelter on Christmas morning, and when we put her in her kennel, she started to cry. So my step-son had to stay behind with her. I really don't think he minded too much. It was a great trip, but has anyone else had this problem?

| I think its a great idea to take a 13 week old puppy on vacation. So many opportunities for socialization! Just avoid "dog parks" and other dog areas, use pee pads in the room and on the road. Make sure all shots are up to date. When introducing to other dogs, just ask the owner of the dog is up to date on vaccines before you let them get too close. I did not shelter Gracie before she was 16 weeks, and I have a very friendly dog to show for it.

| Zada had her first flight at 14 weeks old, then at 16 weeks we drove up to San Francisco which is a 5 & 1/2 hr. drive. She loved looking out the windows at everything and it was her first lesson in the words cow and horse. She loved the motel and fishermans wharf. The seals drove her nuts. She wanted to go down there and play with them. It was a very wonderful day for her but she was so worn out. The next morning she couldn't wait to go see more things. It was so cute. I think traveling is the best way to break them in socially. We took her everywhere and of course people just love petting a little dog, and she loves the attention. Just ask your Vet. what you should do or not do and what to have on hand. Your going to LOVE Disney World, but they don't allow dogs. They do have a kennel there and a 24-7 Vet. Tell your Vet. about this and see if he doesn't recommend kennel cough meds before you leave. When you drive that far, just make sure you stop for a few minutes every 2 hours and take Bear for a long walk, and a drink. He will sleep better and enjoy traveling if it's made fun for him. Go and enjoy! We all want to see tons of pictures when you get back. |

| Moving from Florida - Texas by CAR. Hello! Well, August 4th 2007 my boyfriend and I will be moving to Texas from Tampa, Florida. We are taking Howie to the vet to get a check up and get a print out of his up to date shots and medical records. I have looked up all the pet friendly hotels that are on the way of our trip, encase we decide to take a break. We are thinking of buying the carseat and we are taking his crate with his favorite toys. Pee Pads, poop bags, and his food. Is there anything that I missed? Thanks so much.

| We have taken Murfee camping since he was very young. One thing I did though was limit his time on the ground. I have a carrier that looks like a back pack but you wear it in the front. It is mesh on the sides and has a hard bottom. He stayed in that most of the time....and still does at 3 years old. We have taken him over 37000 miles camping with us and he LOVES it. He goes nuts we he sees us loading up. Good luck at Disney, Patty |
