I am kind of nervous about how he will do on the trip but I can't bear to leave him at home. We will be driving there and back (12-13 hours). Once there we are going to spend a most of the time at the campground only visiting the parks 3 to 4 days. We have been to Disney many times and planned this trip to be a more relaxing one...enjoying the campground and other non-park amenities (if there is such a thing as a relaxing Disney vacation!) Do any of you seasoned travelers with Yorkies have any advice for making this trip easier or less stressful considering the newness of Bear to travelling? Am I wrong to take him 800 miles away for 10 days? Any suggestions appreciated. | WOW - maybe I'm wrong, and I hate to be the unpopular one, but in all honesty, I don't think it's a good idea to take a 13 week old Yorkie puppy on a 800 mile drive and vacation for 10 days. I'm not trying to be mean or attack you in any way --- but have you thought this out? How much does your puppy weigh? How many shots has it had? Will you be able to give it any kind of flea & tick protection? Will you be in a RV or a tent? On the days that you do go to Disneyland, will you take the pup with you? Do you have a stroller for it? Gez, all I know is that there is no way we could have taken our Mia on that kind of trip when she was little. We were told to keep her home and try to keep the amount of friends/relatives that visited to a minimum - to lessen the stress. She wasn't to go for walks until she had her 3rd set of shots. We don't have fleas or ticks out here in the desert but the vet said if we were even thinking about going to CA or anywhere where there was that we should start preventive measures immediately - and that was well after her having all of her shots. The diseases they can pick up from other dogs and animals is unbelievable! I would be uncomfortable with the stress that I would be imposing on a new little one. In the woods with little or no protection from fleas & ticks in the middle of June... Is there anyone that could watch the baby until you get back? Hopefully some more members with experience will reply to this. Good Luck on whatever you decide to do. I hope you have a nice vacation!
