| We flew (forget the airline) from Philadelphia to Atlanta last year and took Adalaid with us. They require a sturdy carrier and it has to be able to fit under a seat on the plane. Most of the smaller carriers with a metal frame, wheels and an extendable handle work fine (the sides can be soft). Every airline is different - number of dogs allowed on a flight and cost. We paid $50 each way for Adalaid which I consider insane since our tickets were only $50 each for us. Some airlines charge over $100 each way for a dog in the cabin. The best bet it to go to each airline's web site and read the details of what they allow and the cost. BTW, Adalaid was a champ didn't bark once but she didn't like staying in the carrier the whole flight because she is used to sitting on our laps (she is spoiled )

| Airplane rides Hi all... I am new to the forum...but have flown with my little Daisy. She has flown from NC to CO and from NC to CA w/ connecting flights each way. The price is different per airline... one was $50 @way, one was $80 each way. All of this info is on the airline website, but you are suppose to call ahead to advise them you will be bringing a pet and you pay at the counter when you check in. They are suppose to stay in the carrier at all times on the floor under the seat. (I did sneak Daisy out on one flight - since I sat next to a little boy) But she did great...not a peep out of her. The only difficult thing is that during the layover for the connecting flight - there is really no where to take them - especially if you don't have alot of time. I did take her in the bathroom, gave her some water/food and walked her around alittle...but had some wipes to wipe her feet etc (no telling the germs there!). Daisy LOVED the attention, people even took pictures w/ camera phones of her - she is very small - currently 1.13lbs and adorable. I am planning a trip to TX for New Years and yep, Daisy will be going too... she is my constant companion. |

**** I put a puppy pad in the bottom of her carrier and changed it between flights - she held her poopie until we got there - both times, and each trip was at least 6 hrs. She did very well and we are going to TX next weekend but she's becoming a flying pro... I think she deserves WINGS!!!! | |

| I fly with my babies and I also hand deliver puppies that I sell. I just use a soft-sided (well vented) puppy carrier that fits under the seats. They have always done well. I always tell the new owners to keep an eye on the puppy's ears just in case the cabin pressure hurts them. But I have never be told of any problems. And mine have never had problems. The stewardess will give you a small glass and some water, but my babies usually aren't interested in food or water till we stop. They usually sleep, or if they don't the stewardesses will let me hold the carrier in my lap once we are in the air. And they let me unzip one end enough to stick my hand in the carrier and pet the pup. When you go through security, you will have to take the puppy out of the carrier to carry her through the metal detector, as they don't run the puppy through the x-ray machine....lol. I have always had a very positive experience with flying. (Arrive early, as the security people and other people in the airport want to oooooh and aaaahhhh over the baby. I don't let anyone else hold the puppies, but they're free to talk baby talk to them. And believe me... they do! LOL) I know in Texas you have to have a health certificate from your vet. But they have never looked at it. They must be 8 weeks old, I think before you can fly with them. (But each airline could have different rules.) Both Continental and AirTran will only allow 2 pups per plane. It ran me about $80 each time. That's a lot less than gas these days! Anyway, whatever you decide, have a great trip. |

| I have flown with my Yorkie's a couple of times. The altitude changes seem to be ok for them. My anxeity case needs a small dose of children's benedryl (vet advised) to calm him, it worked ok. Purse carrier will not work, must be certain dimentions (you can find on your airline web site) and must be fully enclosed. They need to come out while going thru security, then directly back into their carriers. All in all, not a bad process. If you have really cool attendants on your flight, you can even take them out in flight, mine loved that! |

| Boy this post came at the perfect time. We fly out to pick up our little boy on Saturday. We are going to Missouri to pick him up , and then flying back to Maryland. I know that Air Tran charged us $69 for him. They said that they only allow a few in the cabin. I would never let him fly in cargo. I mean, have you seen how those guys toss that luggage around??? We have all the puppy pads and wash rags and food all set up for him. We are too excited! |

| Good luck with your little one!!! Puppy pads will be great since he is so new, just limit foold and water until you get home, that should help with any accidents on the way home. Be sure after you collect your luggage and get to the car, give him some water and a potty break. Make sure to check with Air Tran for kennel dimentions as well as you will need to have current vet check certificates for vaccinations. Your breeder should be able to provide this to you with advance notice as they know you will be flying him home. Good luck and enjoy your new little baby boy!!! |

| yes, some of the airlines will rip you off. I posted my outrage at this a few weeks back. This is from northworst: Carry-on Pets Northwest is 150 each way, this is highway robbery. I also called Delta (they do not list the price on their web site and of course bought northwest) and they are also 150 bucks each way. That is the price for domestic flights each way. I just booked a DCA to LAX (cross country) flight for $185 round trip, and these airlines want to charge another $300 round trip for a 5 lb dog. I am strongly thinking about the service animal option. My yorkies lower my blood pressure almost as much as these airlines rip pet owners off. And don't think that all flight attendents are decent when dealing with a pet owner. I have been yelled at in the past for letting my yorkie stick his head out of the carrier so he would not bark his head off. Some just dont get it. When I took my little pippin to FL for 6 months on a job assignment, I had to let him out so he would not bark and the passenger next to me helped me hide him behind a newspaper from the evil flight attendent. |

| We flew to Indiana about a year ago. Pinky did great and it cost about $80 extra. She had to stay in her carrier and we also had a connecting flight. I had the doggy panties on her just in case and a couple of treats I would give her during the flight. She was very quiet and good. I practiced with her in the carrier for about a month. She got to the point where she would jump into the carrier to go and just loved it. Here is a picture of her on the airplane with her little nose sticking out. plane.jpg The guy behind us said he was surprised we had a dog, she was so quiet and good.

| I'm super late to the game on this thread, but I have flown Roxy at LEAST 20 times in her young life (she's 4) and I fly on continental airlines. Cost is $90 each way. I've sent a letter to Continental begging them to begin a frequent flyer program, where good dogs that fly often are rewarded with a free flight for every few trips. If anyone has other questions about flying, I am more than happy to help! |
