Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks everyone!! I e-mailed our breeder and asked if she had any referrals. I would ask my family members except they're all coming with me on my trip!! heheh. My sister is graduating from Med School I've thought of bringing them, but with all the busyness thats gonna happen on our trip they might feel left out. And Lewie hasn't gotten his rabies vacc yet. Hopefully I'll manage to find a really great person. Don't worry I won't use craigslist. lol.

| I too, hire someone to stay at my house. I have been lucky to have been able to find friends of my girls, or children of co-workers that want to earn some $$ and have my house to themselves now, my daughter is old enough to stay there and she could always use the cash... too bad its for 3 whole weeks or I would volunteer would love to come and visit there! d

| When my daughter was home I had nothing to worry about but after she left if she and her family could not stay with my babies I had a college student that came and stayed at my house with them. I just can't put them in any boarding facility. |

| What is a fair price to pay someone to stay in your house and puppy sit per day?

| Care.com often has good people. I dog-sit and am listed there. I'm lucky enough that my dad watches Jackson when I go away. There was 1 time when he couldn't (because we all went to Disneyworld together) so I left him with my mother & step-dad (who I live with) and even though I don't trust them as much... they are family, Jackson lives there so he's comfortable with them and the environment, etc. I honestly don't know what I'd do if they couldn't watch him for any reason.

| Well, I was just in Cleveland, Ohio last weekend, and my boyfriend didn't go with me, so he stayed with Fiona. When we went away in the summer I was lucky to have the breeder and friend watch Fiona for me. I guess it's really a decision you need to make, I used to work as a vet tech, so they would stay at my job when I was away, and I knew they would be fine there! Good Luck!!!!!!

| We're dealing with this now too. We're going away in April for the first time since we got Roxie. None of my family members wanted the responsibility of taking care of her, so one of my coworkers volunteered. She has 3 dogs of her own and her son is a vet tech, so I am confident in leaving Roxie with them. I know she will be well taken care of. She won't accept money from me, but I will find a way to pay her for being so kind.

To the OP-even if you think they would feel left out I would try to take them and stay at a pet friendly place. They will at least be with their mommy even if they are not able to participate in all events. They are surely going to miss you tons if you leave them behind but if that is not an option then I wish you the best of luck. I think it was a really good idea to ask your breeder too.

| Even if you do take them to a "pet friendly" hotel or motel, most places do not allow you to leave them alone in a room even to go out for supper. Valid point they make is 1. dog may bark and disturb other guests and 2. they cannot be responsable for them if there is there is fire. Also, what we have found in traveling with our dogs is that they try to stick you in "pets allowed" rooms which we found were most always smoking rooms and I cannot be around smoke..and don't want my dogs subjected to sitting in a stinky smokey smelling room, either. Just another few things to think about. I personally think my babies are far better behaved and quieter than most peoples children and it bugs me that we are penalized because they have fur. |
