| how long until my baby can travel? I am getting my new baby soon as was wondering how long until I can travel long distance with him? He will be 12 weeks old when my breeder (Jasmanea) will give him to me. He isn't going to be 2lbs by then, so I am just wondering when I could travel back and forth to Tampa and Atlanta. I want to bring him everywhere with me!! |

| I got my first yorkie when she was 7 weeks, 4 weeks later, we drove to Illinois(850 miles each way). She did fantastic. Are you flying or driving? |

| I think some dogs will just travel better than others regardless of age. We had one dog that was a great traveler and loved it. We have one now, that sometimes has to be medicated if it's a very long trip. She pants a good bit and just doesn't like to be in the car. |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | All of the above, plus..... Now! I think a pup has to be only 8 weeks before traveling by air, so you already good on those grounds. Just need to make sure you have the appropriate size crate (that fits under the seat of the plane YOU'RE TAKING!, and that's big enough for him to sit, lie, stand, and turn around in comfortably!) If you're traveling in the car, it will just depend on whether he's a good traveler, meaning does good in the car and doesn't get car sick....otherwise it will be a LOOOOOng trip for you and for him! Also, if he's 12 weeks I'm guessing he's probably getting close to finishing his puppy shots? I've been told by a vet that you don't want your puppy to be ANYWHERE another dog COULD have been until 3 weeks after the last puppy shot. However, I have also heard that as long as they're started on the shots, it's ok. I personally didn't have a choice but to let mine down to potty on grass I know other dogs have been when she was only 10 weeks old....just no other choice, but I was really worried. She's perfect though, so it probably is ok. If you're leery, take puppy pads that you can put in the floor board of the car, but you may need to let him run around a bit too....maybe in a parking lot though (so the grass wouldn't be contaminated)??? Just a thought..... Good luck and have a great time with your new baby boy! You will LOVE having him!

YT 500 Club Member | Dogs need to be 8 weeks old in order to travel by air, and need to have a health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. Make sure that you confirm that you can get her on the flight you're taking. You will need to make her reservation ahead of time. FAA regulations only allow 2-3 dogs in Economy class on any given flight. Another 1-2 dogs may travel in First Class. Obviously do NOT let a puppy that small (IMO, any Yorkie) travel with the baggage in the belly of the plane.

YT 500 Club Member | Well, hopefully not many Yorkies get put into the cargo/baggage area since they are small enough to fit under the seat, but that is how a lot of dogs have to fly. My boss just flew his two black labs from S. Korea to the US and the plane was delayed for 8 hrs, so when the dogs finally got out of their crates, they had been in there for 21 hours with NO human contact, pee break, water, food, etc. As you can imagine, my boss was furiuos since he was promised that they would at least be given food and water. Poor dogs. I dont' think a Yorkie would make it.
