♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | Help..hates being brushed?? I have brushed Tobie ever since I got him when he was 15 months old, he is now almost 2 and he fights, runs away from me, acts like I am going to kill him everytime I brush him. When I finally get ahold of him, he doesn't whine or anything so I know that I am not hurting him.I just don't know what to do?? One more question...What kind of brush should I use on him? Thanks |

Are you sure the brush isn't hurting him? Dogs don't necessary whine if something is hurting them. Do you use a pin brush? If so, brush the pins along your arm, they shouldn't feel scratchy, remember there is a difference between "pain" and "discomfort." While you might not be actually causing pain, you may be causing discomfort. That said, Yorkies are stubborn, and seem to have a mind of their own. I like the Madden brush, and think it's a wonderful value. Madden Brushes for Dogs

| I agree about the Madden brush. It's the best I've ever used, much better than the Chris Christensen brushes IMO. As Nancy said, if the brush is hurting him, no wonder he hates to be brushed. You can't get a good quality brush at Petsmart or Petco. You must buy them online. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I really recommend a pin brush for Yorkies; pin brushes get through snarls better, and get tangles out. Bristle brushes are sometimes used to finish off the coat, but a pin brush should be used first. Using a pin brush first, and finishing with a comb is the best way to ensure that there are no tangles. Remember, tangles can lead to mats.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The first couple of years can be expensive, but the right equipment last a long time.

That is true but when your in college and don't have a full time job,$23 for a brush is expensive and when you add $16 dog food, $45 hair cut...its alot of money, but only the best for my little boy!Thank goodness my parents still help me out! | |

Donating YT Addict | i know when you brush, Tyke had to be talked to the whole time i was brushing him. then i gave him treats because he didn't like it either. try this if the new brush doesn't make him calm down. hope this might help. i also cut Tyke's hair, to keep cost down. i have a plus though.......I'm a hairstylist for people...lol so that helps alot. but it's not that hard to groom your own dog you should try so it could save you some money.
