| ![]() I have never had a problem with a dog liking the car--or to "go for a car ride?" Isla is 5 1/2 months and could care less about the car. She shivers and whines and cries. It isn't lasting as long as it used to and she'll settle down eventually but I don't think she looks at is as a perk. But I like to bring her with me on trips. How long does it take for them to get used to the car? Or does anyone have any tips to make the process faster or easier? |

| ![]() My girl has never had difficult time either. I take her everywhere and I think she is used to it too. Maybe if there is someone in your passanger seat and have her favoite blanket and give her massage on the trip.. that might ease her anxiety. Haruka seems to feel really safe in her carrier and comfortable and sometimes I have her in the carrier when I drive....

| ![]() Maybe never. Mac is 2 and he hates the car! From the day we drove him home he has hated it! Cries, shakes, in carrier, out of carrier, someone holding him...dont matter he hates it. Maci is 15 weeks and she is somewhat better IF she is in carrier. I am determined that she will ride with me....(if she wants to) lol

| ![]() They will get use to it if you keep trying. Never baby them while they are shaking, just act like everything is ok and like you do it everday. Also take them as often as you can. As with all things new for a puppy it takes time. I hope this has helped.

| ![]() Sammie is 2 and a half. And he's loved the car since as long as I could remember. Even when my fiance and I first got him. The ride home, he loved it!

| ![]() Thanks for all the words of encouragement! I, too, hope that with time Isla will like the car. She is getting better with not whining as long but then she just burries her head in my lap and tries to sleep the rest of the ride! |

| ![]() I hope you realize that some dogs simply just do not like the car, and theres nothing you can do about it. But hopefully that's not your case! ![]()

| ![]() Hmm.. not quite sure what to do. Maybe he has had a bad experience in the car (going to the vet, etc). I would start out by making the car a good place, with toys and a bed. Do this when the car is not moving and until he is excited to get in the car. Then gradually work your way up to turning the car on, going down the block, and so on. If you have a dog friend nearby maybe take him there or to the dog park/store. Any happy place. That way he associates the car with good! I'm just guessing here, all the dogs I've met have loved the car.. but if I were in your position that is what I'd do. One last thing is drive slowly and carefully and do not praise him when he is scared. Good luck! Vanessa |

| ![]() this thread is right on time. just this morning i had to put sasha back in the house because she hated riding in the car. i barely got down the block! in her carrier she started trying the scratch her way out of it! so i got her out to put her in my lap and she was shaking and scrambling up my body trying to bury her head behind me and she fought so much she came out of her sweater! ![]() poor baby. i just let her stay home today. when i put her back in the house - it was like nothing had happened so i figured out then that it was the car. that was her second ride since i got her this weekend and she hated it when my so picked her up from the breeders. hopefully it gets better soon. | ![]() In BsAs where i'm living now, taking a cab is so frequent that by the time he was 1 and a half the shaking and whining had stopped, now he just sleeps and watches the cars go by! maybe it is all about getting them use to it?? |

| ![]() Sophie is not crazy for car rides either. She used to shake and pant and crawl up my body. Now she will sit in my lap. I found if I open the window a bit and leave some air in, she is much better. This Sunday we took a short trip and as we pulled in the driveway and parked, she threw up all over me! Was it the car ride OR was it the carrots I gave her about an hour earlier. It was the first time she had them. I don't know but it may make sense that she might get a tummy ache from the car ride. Either way, try opening the window just enough to circulate some air. That might help. ![]() |

| ![]() If they are fearful in the car ...Practice makes perfect... daily go for a spin around the block, make it part of a routine and before u know it they will like it ![]() but when they do get to like to go for the ride do not let them hang out the window as they get eye and ear infections from that ![]() |

| ![]() With puppies, I think it takes practice. Mine used to get carsick and he still would if we go for long drive so we had to work with him for a little when he was young, start with a few minutes drive around the block. He never hate his car rides because he knows he is going somewhere but I don't remember him enjoying his car trips until I made him a car seat and strap him in it. He now (about 3 years later) can comfortably look outside the window or just lie down and relax and he totally loves to go for car rides.
