We met with the radiologist and he went over the PET scan with us as he was first seeing it. He mentioned that the right mass lit up and another mass on the right side but closer to the middle? He also said the neck area on both sides showed a lot of activity. Well we knew the right side since they removed the lymph node 2 weeks ago. I was surprised by the left side but mentioned to him that he had the chemo port in that area and if that could have caused the activity. He said good question and that he would check. He said that he had lymp something in the right ches. The lesions on the left lung did not light up and neither did the adrenal tumor so that was good news. Something showed up in the abdomen but not sure what that meant. He feels it is Stage 4 based on the PET scan. They are doing a roundtable tomorrow with all the different specialties and then we will hear what the recommended treatment will be. Ken has an appointment to get marked for radiation on Wednesday. That way if they decide tomorrow on a short (3 weeks) period of radiation before chemo he will have an appointment. I am so drained. Thanks for the prayers.

There was a man in Baltimore a few years ago that had stage 4 Lung cancer... he went into a clinical trial and the cancer went into remission. I'm searching for the article and will post it as soon as I find it. The docs made some kind of treatment using the man's own cells so it was very targeted for his disease....

Thanks all. I am getting very frustrated. It is 6:00 pm here and we have not heard from anyone at the cancer center. Ken is scheduled for radiation marking tomorrow, but the radiologist said it would depend on what the roundtable came up with. So here we are another day no treatment plan.
Kathy, I am beginning to think we may have to go to one of the bigger cancer hospitals like in Boston or Houston. I really appreciate you looking up that case. It really is up to the person/family to find the best treatment as I am finding. If I hear anything tonight I will post.

I saw on the Livestrong.org site they offer one-on one help. It may be worth checking into it... think of it as YT for people with or who know people with cancer. They may be able to help guide you in the right direction, as they've "been there, done that". May be able to recommend someone or a clinic or hospital in your area that won't be "dragging their feet", or reassure you that you are on the right track, either way, but they are there to help, and they've got a lot of experience doing just that. They are 'up' on the latest research, treatments, and clinical trials and know where the best doctors in the world are. They've done all the legwork and have the answers, and if not, they will help you get the answers you need.

Patti, I am frustrated for you and Ken. I clerked in hospitals for several years and you are correct, too much is left to family members. Stay on the doctors and push hard.

Please keep on the doctors for answers. As good as they may be, it is always up to the patient and their families and advocates to keep the momentum going. Hang in their and hopefully you will get some definitive answers.

From everything I've heard the larger, more well-known cancer centers are the most familiar with the latest techniques due to their larger concentration of high-quality staff doctors and researchers, see a larger variety of cancer and are the most-scrutinized. It would be worth looking into one of those larger centers near you. You both are in my daily prayers.

Patti am praying you have heard from someone and things are going much better there for Ken on getting started with the treatments.
Ken is so very very Blessed that he has you right there as his advocate, this is so needed. It can not be stressed enough that anyone ill should have an advocate overseeing their care, many don't realize this.
Keeping you and Ken in constant prayers, Patti I am especially asking the Lord to give you the strength and HIS guideance as you seek the best treatment and Physicians for Ken, and this for Ken too.

Thanks so much. We finally heard back from the nurse oncologist after I left a message earlier. They are going to do 13 treatments of radiation. If after a week he hasn't gotten some relief with his breathing they will start chemo. If it does they will wait until the radiation is over and start the other type of chemo that is easier on Ken and as effective. I am continuing to look at options but right now we need to get treatment started here so her can get some relief.

Patti, I'm happy to hear there is a plan in place now. Finally Ken can get started with the *fight*, and this will be valuable even if another option is taken later.

Every case is a little different, and I'm sure the doctors are all doing their best to evaluate Ken's whole case, and prioritize treatment forms according to effectiveness in different areas.
