Yesterday I had the greatest phone call...it made my day...my week! It was Patti calling and she said someone wanted to talk to me. She said to listen real close because he may be hard to understand. It was Jack!!! At first I couldn't tell what he said, and I just told him how thrilled I was to hear his voice and that I'm praying for him. Then I heard Patti say, "Tell Connie what you were going to say." Jack said, "I love you Connie. Thank you for the prayers." OMGosh...if that wasn't music to my ears. I was doing the happy dance.

Jack got moved to a room just outside of ICU. There were too many infectious diseases in ICU, so they moved out lots of the patients to these rooms that are just outside ICU. They told Patti that Jack is still in critical condition and he is still hooked up to everything and being monitored by ICU. He had a cat scan yesterday, but Patti has still not heard the results. They are watching his blood closely and the levels, so that tells them that they have to keep him on certain meds. He is in a private room and Patti is going to be staying nights with him. I asked her if they brought her in a recliner or something comfy so she could get some sleep and she said that they don't have them there. I couldn't believe it. All she had was some hard wooden chairs. I came up with an idea and told her to go today and find herself a comfy lounge chair...like an outdoor one that can be folded up and she can just keep that there. She thought that was a great idea and will be shopping for one today. Anything would be better than some wooden chairs! She had lined 3 of them up and tried to sleep on them. That's not good...especially with her neck problems.

She said Jack has his good times, like when they called, and then five minutes later, he will have forgotten everything. He's got a long way to go, but Patti believes with time, he will recover and be back to the norm.
She said it's very important to keep the prayers for Jack, because he is certainly not out of the woods yet. She's so thankful for your prayers and concern. She hasn't had a chance to read all the posts yet, but will some day when she has a chance. She wants to wish everyone a Happy Father's Day...yes...the ladies too. If it weren't for you, they couldn't be fathers!

Default *Update*

There is a lot to cover in this update and I will try to remember it all. The doctor showed Patti the CT scan today and the good thing is, the bleeding is stopped. It can still start back up, but we'll pray that it doesn't. The doctor showed Patti the area of the brain that is damaged and it is quite a large area. The doctor said Jack will never be the same again...that it is extensive. The doctor said that once the swelling goes down in Jack's brain, there will be a big hole in the damaged area. He said in three months, they may have to do surgery to put a shunt in to keep the fluid draining. He said this damage was from the fall...that Jack did not have a stroke, nor a seizure that caused the fall...that it was all from the fall. I told Patti Jack can be healed and she said she is claiming that, but that she has to be prepared.

She replaced Jack's internist that he had when he came into the hospital, with their own doctor who was out of town at the time and is now back home. She talked with him today and told her she wants Jack home asap as she is fearful of him catching something infectious or staph there at the hospital. Her doctor told her he will order a hospital bed and anything else the Jack will need when he comes home. Patti will have all of that set up in her livingroom. She is giving her couch and 2 recliners to a young lady who adopted Patti and Jack as "mom and dad." This young lady just had a baby girl a day or two ago and Patti said they don't have much, so she'll be giving things to them in order to have the place as open as can be for when she is walking Jack around that room. She doesn't want anything in the way.

Physical, Occupational and one other type therapy will be done for Jack at home, once he is there. They will come to his home to do that. The doctor told her that she will need some time to do things and that she will qualify for house care, where someone will come in to allow her to leave for a couple of hours and do what she needs to do or just go to another room to take a nap, give the puppies a bath, or clean house. The doctor told her she would have to use this time wisely. Patti doesn't know how many hours per week that will be, but she will be grateful for any help. The doctor told her he will get the things ordered and then they will see how Jack is doing on Wednesday and if all is well, he could possibly go home. Jackie will be staying for an undetermined amount of time, so she will have help from her. Her son, Scott, went home today and daughter, Sue will leave on Wednesday.

Patti is very positive about all this. I told her it is very wearing to take care full time of an adult. She knows that, but says that God hasn't given up on them and she's not giving up. We need to keep praying for both Jack and Patti. There is a tough road ahead, but Patti is willing to do anything in her power to help Jack. I'm worried about her sleeping...and she needs to have a bed for herself nearby. I guess she and Jackie will figure out a routine and such. I'm sure Jackie will stay until she feels things should go smoothly.

One more thing. Jackie is their dear daughter whom, when Patti and Jack got their yorkies, they got them with Jackie's approval...that if anything ever happened to them, she would give the yorkies a home. Since Jackie got here this visit, Dollie Dae has become her companion...Dollie Dae sleeps with Jackie and she cries if Jackie gets up to go to the bathroom. She doesn't want Jackie to leave her side. So, Patti told me today that she has decided to give Dollie Dae to Jackie. That will leave her with 2 dogs to care for and she will have no regrets seeing Dollie Dae go with Jackie. So, things are working out somewhat. Patti will miss her little Dollie, but she'll also feel relief in knowing she is loved by Jackie and Patti will hear reports often on how she is doing.

Oh...I know what I forgot. The neurosurgeon explained to Patti that Jack's water intake has to be reduced to 1200 cc per day, as there is sodium in the water and that is helping to retain fluid in his brain. He told her to probably give him Shasta Coke to drink, rather than water...I guess it has less sodium.

I hope I covered everything. Patti feels like she's neglecting all of you because she hasn't been on here to read posts, pm's and messages, but I told her she can do that when she gets time and everyone understands and doesn't expect her to answer them right now. She's grateful for the prayers and outpouring of love!
