| Anyone in Phoenix area? Thinking of moving there... We (myself, DH and our Yorkie Duke) are considering a move from Seattle to the Phoenix area within the next couple of years. I'm sure that Duke will love how hot it is (he's camped out in front of the heater right now and would be much happier if I'd let him stay downstairs in front of the fireplace.) I'm wondering how dog-friendly an area it is. We have a lot of places, including some of the outdoor shopping centers here that welcome dogs - are there places down there like that? DH will very likely be working in Tempe - how far out could we live if he only wanted to commute 30-45 minutes each way? Thanks! |

| Hi there! We live in Chandler (just south of Tempe) and the "Phoenix area" seems to be somewhat dog friendly. There are dog parks popping up like crazy in almost every city. Recently there was an article about dog friendly restaurants. Good luck with your decision. | I actually just moved from Phoenix to Nevada. I grew up in North Phoenix, and most recently lived in Mesa. My boyfriend worked in Tempe and our condo was at Alma School & Guadalupe. It took him between 25-30 minutes (depending on traffic, sometimes longer) to get to work every day. I would recommend south Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Ahwatukee, or Tempe for a commute of 30-45 minutes. There are many dog parks and dog friendly places. You won't see many people outside with their dogs during the day in the summer because it is so hot, but it's great in the evenings and during the winter (we don't have spring or fall ). Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck! |

| My step-daughter just moved to the phoenix/glendale area last year and she LOVES it......she has 2 dogs and they all seem very happy there. My husband and I were considering a move there in the next couple years as well but who knows. I do know that our yorkie Cooper would love it there....although he loves the snow to. Good luck to you if you do decide to move....it is definately a beautiful area and sounds rather dog friendly. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi there! I've lived in Phx for almost 2 years now and it's really great, wonderful weather. It's pretty dog friendly - not as great as, say, Colorado - but many, many people seem to have dogs. On the down side, I see alot of "yard dogs" here, which is really heartbreaking - their job is just security, to bark at intruders and they basically just live in a yard and receive no attention. I know there are yard dogs everywhere, but it is particularly bad here. Commuting can be TERRIBLE here, so really be choosy. Both my husband and I work in Tempe, commute 15 mins from the newly developed area on South Mountain in Phoenix (we are right at the mountain, right near a major hiking trailhead which is wonderful). Def. explore areas in Phoenix proper. I'd stay away from Chandler bc you'd be fighting bad traffic on the 10 both ways to get to Tempe (unless you live in N. Chandler and can stay on surface streets). Check out North Awhatukee (sort of north of Chandler) also - easy to get into Tempe IF you stay on surface streets away from teh 10. There is a very cool area being developed on Tempe Town Lake - condo/loft/apartment type stuff. It would be pricey, but a great/fun area. What are looking for? House? Condo? Loft? Big/small? New/old? If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. (btw, I do have a neighbor w/ a house for sale - 2 yr. old house, pool, 2 BR (or 3?), fountain, really nice; I think it's priced somewhere around 450k???) Ann |
