Donating YT 500 Club Member | YT puppy sales ads A recent for sale thread has once again become a heated debate. It is a subject that will NEVER be agreed upon, kind of like politics and religion This was my post that got deleted, and it should have been - not the proper place. But I would like to have a reasonable discussion about this topic and thought this might be the place. The only sensible solution to the entire problem is for the Sale of dogs not to be allowed here. There is just no way for YT admin, to properly determine who is or isn't a reputable breeder. The education about how to find a reputable breeder is here for those searching for a puppy/dog. IMO, a site dedicated to the love of yorkies, should not be promoting sales within the site. It's like talking out of both sides of your mouth, you know - donate to United Yorkie Rescue for all of those poor innocent rejected yorkies, but also allow the sale of the yorkies....it's kind of like a petstore saying they are against puppymills. I don't mean to be disrespectful but just really don't understand why. How about a "sticky" list of breeders here. No puppies listed for sale - just contact info? Potential buyers could read the list, read the educational material here, then contact breeders and make an informed decision. That would resolve a lot of this bickering. Is this something we as the YT community could vote on? __________________

You worded it better than I tried too in the thread. I think this is a very good suggestion and hope Admin takes it into consideration. It would also relieve the stress some of us feel when worring about the welfare of such pups. | |

Administrator | We believe the Yorkie For Sale forums are necessary and helpful, as many Yorkies have found wonderful homes through our For Sale forums. The reason we allow anyone to post Yorkies for Sale if they fill out the form is because we believe members that are searching for Yorkies can learn more here at YorkieTalk than if they just found a classified listing. When a person just sees a classified listing, they can not ask questions of the breeder and can't learn the differences between a good and bad breeder. There is a need for the Yorkies For Sale forums for those YorkieTalk members who may not already have a Yorkie. There are Yorkies out there that need homes, that is why we have a For Sale section as well as a Rescue forum. Unlike pet stores, YorkieTalk does not make any commissions nor do we get a referral fee or any amount of money at all when a Yorkie is sold on YorkieTalk. Thus, we do not believe we are like pet stores, who do make money when pets are sold. We do have a YorkieTalk Featured Breeders section, which has a yearly fee, for the "professional" breeders that want to differentiate themselves from other sellers. We feel we are serving a need in the YorkieTalk community, and by requiring ALL sellers to fill out a lengthy form, we feel members looking for Yorkies will have more information than if they saw an ad on the Web, that just stated a Yorkie's price, age, and the seller's phone number. We get many questions asked by new Yorkie parents or potential Yorkie parents, and we feel having a For Sale forum will help them in their search. Thank you for your feedback. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Where's that popcorn icon? Well, to my mind - having a list of any/all breeders is really not much different than allowing any/all For Sale Threads. Less impassioned perhaps, but not all that much different. I think having the ads at least allows for feedback/input - and we all learn from it, at least I know I have over the years - haven't we all? I know the way I choose has been completely molded by what I have learned HERE - and largely in part by the For Sale Threads, the Breeder Section and YOU GOOD PEOPLE. It's a tough one. I agree that there is NO way to screen breeders - I see no plausible way to "pre-judge" reputable vs. non-reputable, nor any way to screen what is acceptable or not (in terms of the breeder). This is subjective territory, and how does one pre-judge that online? I have seen some great buyers connect with some great sellers here, so.... I guess I'm useless....
