Urgent Help Needed Help I just got back from 14 hours of driving to go and pick up this dog. The woman said he was nearly four months old. When I got there he is 5 full months, very pretty dog, but NO TRAINING he pees and poos where he wants she said, so now I have an emergency on my hands. A five month old Yorkie DOG as I dont see him as a baby like I did when I brought my other puppy home, he is SORT of getting along with my dog, but ate everything in both bowls and left my dog with no food. then he proceeds to RAISE his leg and pee on my bedroom wall WTF:mad: . I have crated him for the night, is this cruel, he has never been crated before? I dont normally crate animals but good lord. If our drive was not 7 hours each way I wont have done this. I am exhausted here. It is 3:12 AM and we just got backa little bit ago. HELP me please. I wouldnt have taken him but we had alredy driven so far:mad: I am mad she told me he was younger when he was not. NOw I have a 5 month old dog on my hands with absolutely ZERO training, does not know sit, come or no house training whatsoever. What crises have I gotten into? |
Oi.....If the crate is big enough for him, and he is not freaking out he should be ok. Otherwise do you have a small room that you can fence off? Like laundry room, or bathroom? Get some sleep and then figure out your plan attack on housebreaking. |

What sort of environment did he come from? Did you buy him from a breeder? Did you buy him from a owner? Why did the owner get rid of him? I would keep him crated and work very hard with him on his house training skills! also I wanted to add that eating 2 bowls of dog food will more then likely make him sick, he is to small to be eating that much food! You need to monitor his food intake! |
Don't feel bad about Crating him. He is new to your home and he will be getting into trouble through the night if you were sleeping. Start fresh in the morning and start implementing YOUR rules that you expect him to live by. I am sure it will not be easy but if you stick w/it you should do fine! Good luck |

Yes, but that is my puppy's place to rest and eat and so I didnt want to put him there and he thing it is his den as he is trsing to donimate my other puppy and I DONT want this at all. He is now quiet in the crate, with a warm blanket and bowl of water. I feel badly but he will poo in my house and he peed a hell of a lot |
Oh so you're like me... haha no sales resistance and felt obligated to get the dog. It is not wrong to crate train a dog. I do that with mines and they are now housebroken. Just be patient my dear. I can't tolerate male behaviors also, like the whole marking his territory, but you just need to housebreak him. He is still a puppy since he's only 5 months old. So that means there's still hope. Goodluck! If you need any help or suggestions, you can always ask... |

He inhaled the food didnt even chew it. He comes from a breeder and she sold him becaues his second testicle went up and wont come down so she cant use him for breeding. he is a beautiful dog, really pretty. But she never trained him. She said she only put newspaper and he went on it if he wanted to. WTF. He has NO training at all. I feel like I just got a RESCUE from the pound:mad: |
i know it is totally frustrating but thankfully he is still young enough to be trained somewhat easily. you have made a commitment to this pup...so now you will just have to do all you can to train him. and understand that there will be a lot of frustrating moments in the process. just pray for a little extra patience and be VERY consistent. he will train. he will be a great dog...if you work hard at it. you also need to make sure that you are making it impossible for him to eat all the other food. he does not need to be able to do this. you have to take control. |
Awww, sounds like you both have had a very rough day. I certainly wouldn't expect great behavior after the day you've both had and him in a new envirnment. Put him in his crate and get some sleep, tomorrow will be a new day and you can start it off with getting aquainted and he can start learning the new rules. I hope you'll share some pics later! ;) |

I feel he guzzles the food because at the breeder he was fed with all her other dogs so they all ate and maybe he didnht get enough so when he did he ate like mad. It was WERID as hell, as my current puppy nibbles and takes like 30 minutes to eat two ozs of food:eek: I will try my best for patience but will you all please help me on those dark dismal frustrating days when I feel all hell is braking loose? I have never had a dog this old before. Do you really think he can still learn obedience and house breaking? How many weeks can I crate him at this age? He is dead silent. Will crating him at this age cause him to become nervous and paranoid? My first pup took him both paws and tried many times to dominate him, but he keeps firing bites at him. What does this mean also? Is he the boss or is my first pup the Žboss? |

Give him a week and he will be the best dog you could of asked for! Yorkies can be very stubborn, but they also are very smart! They want to please you, but right now he does not even know your his new mommy, he is scared and confused. |

Yes I will when his tail comes out from under his butt and belly, its tucked in way under there he is frighten, so it will take some days I hope and pray. I hope he will like him new home, it is hard getting this this old:( I never had one this old before. |
I think you need to take some deep breaths. He is still very much a puppy and with some training and guidance he will make a wonderful companion. Did you think you were getting a fully trained dog at 5 months? Not to be rude, but Mckenzie is nearly 8 months and nowhere near trained and we work on it daily. Maybe give the new puppy small amounts of food at a time, since he is eating so quickly. Take him out every 30 minutes to potty. Be gentle with him, he's new to your home and I'm sure even if he did have some training, your house is a whole new game as far as potty training goes. I know that mine are mostly trained and will still go potty inside at someone else's home simply because it's different. |

What is your other breed of dog you have? Since you have both males, they are going to test each other to see who is the leader of the pack, but you have to make sure they BOTH know that YOU are the leader, not them! |

Very hard day, 14 hours on the road and 45 minutes at the breeder, I was in a hurry to get out of there as it was already pitch dark and I hate night driving, especially thru all those winding country hills. So I made it quick. Was very stressful and now is is 3:39 I am going to try to get a few zzzzzs and will come back again tomorrow ok. He is quite now and I covered the crate is this also good? Night ladies, thanks for the help I will be needing you all a great deal inthe comikng days and weeks:( |
Your new puppy is exhausted, too. Just like you are. Except he also is frightened, not knowing "what kind of mess" he's gotten himself into. |
It will take awhile for him and everyone to adjust. maybe he was just hungry . next meal try seperating them when they eat. 5 months is not really that old. he can still be potty trained. if your other pets are potty trained it will help him catch on faster. but you will have to be patient and work with him. I hope it all works out for everyone. would love to see pictures. |
Sorry you drove so far and the woman was not honest with you. Although unfortunate , it is not the dogs fault, so start fresh with and let him know who ALPHA is ... crating is a good place to start. It was once put to me like this ... for your puppy to run your household is like asking you to run this country. So get a hold of him and let him know he can be disciplined and loved by you. |

I just posted pics of my first puppy, he is 95% house trained. yes, I know it will take a lot of work. That is what you ladies are here for, to help me keep my sanity:( . I think I will need to separate them. I also need to feed number one first and not second. |

it will get better. but you have to give it time, patience, and a wealth of love. there are a lot of wonderfully smart people here on YT and i am sure you will get all the help and support you need...but you have to show that you are patient and willing to tough this out. |

Yes, I nkow, he was shaking, I held him and let him come inside and inspect the new place while the other one stayed outside with my husband. Then I talked gently to him and up popped his ears. He has lovely ears and gorgeous coat. Has his testicle stayed down he would be used for breeding, the lady didnt want to sell him but the testicle went back up. Othersiwe he is lovely. Oh, an HUGE thig also, he has three cainine teeth, one is out, is this normal at age 5 months? Will the new tooth ever comeout? He also has all his adult front teeth, is this also normal? I was a bit shocked as my Pom baby still has all his baby canine and many of the milk front teeth |
Patience is the key I can relate...we sold one of our pups to a friend of mine for her 18 year old daughter, at first I was a little reluctant about it but I knew the daughter and she would come over once a week to play with the puppy, she was really excited about it and asked a lot of questions. So I thought it was going to be alright. Well 3 months after they had him, the parents called me and asked if they could bring him back, turns out the daughter wasn't spending much time with him and he was literally tearing up the house, tearing the wall paper off the walls and such. The daughter would try to make him sleep with her, but if he started barking and wanted out she would let him out of her room and he would go sleep with the parents, so they were the ones letting him out in the middle of the night, she wasn't taking care of him. Of course we took him back, he was nearing 6 months old at the time, and it was just 25 days after I had just lost my precious Baby Kosmo, so I was in no shape to care for a puppy again, even at almost 6 months I still looked at him as a puppy. He had never been crated and was not potty trained. The first night we had him we put him in a crate, he barked almost the whole night. He did this for about 4 days, then he realized that his barking was not going to get him what he wanted anymore. Now he is my sweet little Max who just turned 1 year old last week. He still has accidents every now and then, but he is a sweet boy and I couldn't imagine life without him. So if I can do it you can too, you will just need some patience and give him a lot of loving, it sounds like he may not have gotten a lot of that from where he came. Good Luck! |

Sure I will tought it out. My Pom is not 100% trained, but I would say 95%. But he is very good with many tings in obedience and knows I am boss. he does everything to please his mommy :). It only took me a few tries to get him to learn all the stuf he knows and it is many. I only hope I can teach this yorkie also. But I understand I must not do it with my current puppy around as they wont listen. I can put my poms best and most delicoius snack right dead in front his face on the floor and tell him wait for 3 minutes the I say ok. If I dontn say ok he will never touch it. I leave the room and come back and it is still there and he stil llooking patiently at it lol |

i know you have another dog and have trained that dog...but every dog is different. my cocker was SUPER easy to train. but other dogs i have had were a lot more work. i had an italian greyhound that would pee and pooh in his crate and play in it...not matter how small the crate was. he was almost impossible to train. but diligence and consistency paid off after 10 months!!!!!! yep..10 months. you just never know...but when you take in a new pup...not matter what the age...you have to be wiling to do the work |

Awww, how sweet of you to take him back, I am happy it worked out. Yes, certainly, this one is very quiet. Idont hear him at all. and even if he wines he wont get out NO way. Husband thinks IŽam a mean woman, but he doe snot know sqaut about dogs:mad: . If he would only back off and let me do the training it will work out, but he meddles:mad: |

14 hours is a long drive. You must be tired and puppy must be tired, confused and stressed too. 5 months is still very young and very trainable, not as 'old' as you think. My sister got her maltese at almost 7 months and was wee pad trained in 2 days although breeder said he never trained her at all. Take a good rest and start fresh tomorrow with the pup when you feel refreshed. |
He's still trainable. Get him neutered ASAP to help with the marking. Crating is a GOOD thing as long as you give him frequent breaks. Don't worry about being "alpha" just help him to learn the rules, like he sits for his food and attention. Feed them separately or feed him in his crate. Sounds like this bowl might work well for you if he isn't chewing his food. It slows them down. When we got Sammy she was almost a year old and peed and pooped wherever she wanted. 6 months later she rarely has an accident. It can be done. We combined crate training with tethering and watching her closely and we still take her out often to avoid the chance of an accident. You also might need a training class just so you have some help and don't feel so overwhelmed. |
