Sounds like a rough day. It will get better. When I got Pixie she was 13 months old and had been at the Breeders in a run in the basement where her breeding program was. She was not in the least bit trained and when I crated her she literally screamed. I htought what did I do? I have 2 other dogs, one a pom and another Yorkie. Pixie is a ball of fire and the other 2 are laid back. It took a lot to get Pixie trained and she is not completely trained yet after 9 months but much better. My pom trained so much faster than any of my yorkies and never pees in the house. Ther just a different breed. You will love this one just as much in time. I wouldn't give Pixie up for anything now. Just come here for support and you'll get through it. |
hi it will be ok. i got frankie at 6 months.and he not house train at all.and very timid.just give him time and lot of love. my frankie is full house trained now and very love and happy . hugs.:) |
You are getting great advice already. The only thing I would add is that since he's not had a good start on potty training, it's possible he might potty in his little kennel. Crating him will teach him to hold it, but it may be hard for him at first. If he does, don't get frustrated, don't scold, just clean. ;) When we brought Coby home, he pooped and peed in his kennel every single night for nearly 2 weeks. Then he quit and never has since and is trained with no accidents for weeks (knock on wood, because I know he'll make a liar out of me now!!). Your little one is going to be a treasure, I just know it. And on the days he's proving me wrong...... we're all here for you. :D |

Hi - I'll be honest, I haven't read any of the other replies. I just wanted to let you know that we got Penny at 5 months old with no house training. It takes the same patience as a young puppy. Be consistent and patient. The good thing? His bladder may be developed enough that once he learns what is acceptable and what is not, he might be old enough to hold it for a bit of time instead of you having to do the once-an-hour potty run as with a brand new puppy. |
Five months old is just a baby puppy! It really isn't that old, in my opinion. There are many breeders who will not part w/ their pups until they're 4 mths old, so I don't see a lot of difference there. And, I never expect much training from the breeder - maybe they know what a pad is and hit it sometimes, but that's about it. He sounds like a sweetie - and remember that he is just a baby who was taken out of his environment, very scary. Just take some deep breaths, remember how short and special puppyhood is, give lots of love, and remember that he's just a vulnerable little guy - who wants so badly to please you. Hope you have a better 2nd day! A 14 hour drive would be tough on anyone! Hang in there. |
I agree with 5 months old still being a baby, not old at all. There is no reason that he wouldn't be trainable. My Bella is nearing on 5 months and she always has accidents when she is out of her special area with her pee pads. And that is even with bring a pee pad where ever else we are in the house, its very frustrating but she will figure it out in time. As far as the food, I have a multiple dog household and there is no way I could leave out bowls of food where the other dogs could get at them. Bella is the only one I have that is free fed and that is in her ex pen so only she has access to it. Otherwise maybe feed them in their crate and special area's seperately. Just keep in mind that he is scared, he is in a new environment and needs time to get used to that, and then once he is comfortable that he is safe work with him like crazy. |
My Soleil is 5 months old..she is definetly still a puppy and still not totally housebroken..each dog is different..he might train fast or he might take months...just be consistent and patient and CALM..I can sense the tension right through your post..so I can imagine he can too!!! I dont understand why you took him? In your first post you said you wouldnt have taken him if you didnt drive all those hours...but really...if he wasnt what you wanted after all you shouldnt have taken him and chalked it up to a good road trip..hopefully after a good nights sleep you will be well rested and able to reassess the situation...you cant compare him the the pom as you have spent time training it already. Just think of this yorkie as an 8 week old puppy that has had no training..he will catch on!! Good luck!! Dawn |

Hi good morning all, unfortunately whre I live it is illegal to neuter before 12 months, so I have to wait. They both woke up, by pomeranian slept near me in my room and woke me up. He went out to potty fisrt and then I took the ohter dog out of his crate and he weed also but no poo. He is still shy but seems to know this is his new home. he at e abit this morning not as guzzling as last night. But about this fallen out Canine tooth, is this normal at 5 months? There is no teeth there. Will one come out? I will be livid if the breeder said it will and it wont. |

Hi I have a pom baby as well that was my second dog I was keeping a secret. Have had him since he was 11 weeks he is now 24 weeks:D . He has never been carted and is 95% housebroken. This new puppy his name is scoobydo he wined a secondor two and I ignored it. He was fine this morning. Husband said he didnt pull ont he leash and actually walked which surprised me. I let him sleep with harness on over night to get him used to it. I also put on his vest and he was ok with it no problems. He seems exuahsted and my pom wont let him he, he is fighting for dominance, the pom that is lol |

Yes, this is what I am seeing a timid and scared dog with his tail between his legs, I am holding and kissing himand talking softly but the Pom wont let him be . how long did it take to house train him? |

Just wanted to keep him a secret until number two came. here are as coupleof them just taken, its hard toget a good pic as the Pom Bandit is his name is nagging at scooby lol. These are the best I have gotten so far as they are moving TOO fast for this ole gal:D. Oh that is is winter jacket as he has to go out to poo now. I actually bought it for Bandit but he is thick and fluffy he does not need it. It has come in handy lol |

Yes, that is absolutely why I opted for an older boy. My pom was more like 20 minute intervals, Niagra falls in other words. He has since been able to hold for as long as 7 hours and that is not being confined. He is rarely confined unless I go out now. |

Hi I dont free freed my Pom either. Eat or dont eat after 15 mins adios foodbowl. lol. So what I did this morning which is just two hours agao is fee dthe pom first in his regular area, then sent the yorkie out to wee, then fed him completely separate where the pom cant see. Is it necessary to have them fed in the same area? As I noticed the yorkie growling as the pom approached him. Then funny thing is. My pom will NEVER drink water from any other water bowl. LOL he is right in the yorkie's stainless bown now. I tried to get him to use this bown and he ran like hell. Now look at this, he is driking right after the yorkie, is this a sign to say look here, I can use your bowl or something? |

He is what I wanted, I was just shocked she said nearly 4 months when in fact it was 5 months to be exact. Just the shock. Then the missing canine tooth. She claims this is normal but I am asking here, is it normal for a canine to be completely missing and no other tooth there? He has his adult front teeth. I am concerned about the tooth loss. I dont know anythig about this. he is the dog I went for. I just dont like to be lied to. Now remember when I posted that post I had been in a car for 14 hours in extreme dark country roads and very stressful. And yes, I was extremely tensed last night. I have since calmed down. Dont worry hon. I wont ever mistreat him or any dog for that matter;) |
4 Attachment(s) Now my Pom is humping the yorkie head and pawing him:eek: . Here are some pics, I just put them in a small area together and blacked out the white background as to give contrast. Pom is refusing to go on his bed and yorkie taking over the bed, Soon as yorkie removes from bed pom goes back and then if yorkie comes near it he paws him and tries to hump and raise his leg over the head of the yorkie LOL |
1 Attachment(s) And one more as it wont let me upload 5 |
OH MY! He is gorgeous! I know you are worried about his behavior, but I bet with lots of love and patience, you will be surprised at how much and how quickl he learns. He is a doll baby! You are very lucky!!!!! |

Because I opted for a pup 3.5 to 4 months for the oldest. This is why and the breeder knew this. And she said he went outside to poo and pee and he does not. He has been messing my house, we take him out hour on the hour and soon as he comes back in,he makes a hell of a mess. Now he just schit and pee on my floor same place as last night even tho I clened it with vinegar. The BIG probem is this, my current pup the Pom has been taught to do it outside. Now guess what? Pom is crapping and peeing inside on the same place the other dog did it. I am losing my mind here. I am trying to be calm, only thing I can do is separate them both. Soon as they are separated the madness stops. How long does it take for them to settle? The yorkie seems hyper, nervous, overly hyper and I dont know how to handle this. Please help me as I dont want to get mad at him. I only said to both time for nap and separated them both. But deep down I am boiling mad |
.........I got my yorkie at 5 months and had to start housebreaking at that age....at that time I lived on the 3rd floor and still took her out 12 times a day til she got the msg......it all paid off...........no puppy ever comes to us perfect....that's the joy of it all.....you are there to guide and protect this little one and w every small victory you will feel such a wonderful sense of accomplishment..........it looks like your breeder sold you a beautiful healthy baby.......and Praise God you have an amazing little gorgeous pom as her buddy.....doggies are sensitive and pick up on every emotion we have.....just take a deep breath and start to embrace every single moment of this new little miracle in your life............we have choices....we can choose to see every little negative thing or we can choose to be an adult and take responsibility for what we have before us.............I will be praying for you to have some peace and calm ..........God Bless You and your adorable family!! |

I cuddle him a lot and praise him and stroke him and play with his feet and all that, ina soft gentle way away from the Pom, as all hell will break loose there. How long does it take. HUSBAND IS NOT HELPING ME:mad: same schit before, with me training my Pom. I train he does not enforce, I say dont do he allows. I say sit he does not, I say off, out of the kitchen all that he doe snot.- I say heel he lets the dog pull in front. it is difficult whenyou are dealing with someone who will not carry out any of your rules with regards to the dog. Now this one, he thinks I SHOULD LET HIM PEE POO INSIDE until he gets old to know it is outside WTF:eek: |

That is what I realize here, it will be every 45 minutes for the least, as he has been marking. Pom was good to go for about 6 to 7 hours, now Pom does it soon after yorkie does it inside, I am giong nuts. How long did it take you for it to pay off? Thanks hon for your kind and soothing words. What about the missing canine tooth? will this come out to be an adult tooth or he will be toothless there where this fell out? |

Then, PLEASE tell me how to keep my cool, please. I am more mad at my husband than the dog. No to hpyer and nervous, I saw this at the breeder and asked why he acted so. this was not somethign that only happened since he came last night. I noticed it immediately at the breeder. |

So I am being mean to separate them when they start the crapping and peeing thing or let them continue to play? I have now separated them because of that and giving time out. |
