| I found a little tumor on my Shena's toe yesterday My baby girl is only one year old. Last night she was laying on my chest and I felt a lump on her foot. I immediately checked it out. Its about the size of a pea and is attached to her pad. I called my vet and took her in today. He said it was a tumor, not sure if it was benign or malignant. Either way he wants to remove it. But for today they took fluid to send to a pathology lab. He came back into the room and said the good news was he did not see any abnormal cells on the slide, but he was of course still sending it to the lab and of course still wanted to remove it. Has anyone had this or a similar situation come across and it turned out it was benign??? I am worried sick. I had a rottweiller last October diagnosed with a tumor on her leg and of course I lost her about three months later. I cant believe it could be happening again to my new puppy!!!! I was just hoping for encouraging stories with good endings here while I wait for her results. I am so sad and angry that this could be happening to my puppy!!! |

| I am so sorry! I would be worries too, but it sounds like you're catching whatever it is early and that's good, right? Poor baby... This is a sad way to find YT, but welcome. You will find lots of good information and support here.

| I thnk it's like humans (we have moles- cancerous and non-cancerous) where they're common and usually non harmful. Hopefully, it's nothing. I'm sorry about your rottie, bless his heart. Keep us posted about your baby girl!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had a Yorkie many years ago that had a tumor in between his toes when he was young. I had it removed and he was fine and lived to be 13 years old. I will keep your baby in my prayers.

| No tumor between his toes, but Charlie (10 yo) had a tumor on his side when I adopted him, fluid was clear and vet removed when he had dental surgery. Look forward to good news. Warmly, Deborah

| Wow thank you all for your quick response and kind words. It sure is hard when our little furbaby's are sick. Thank you for your support. My husband just thinks dogs are "dogs" and can be replaced. I on the other hand look at my dogs as a part of my family and life. I dont want to lose another dog so soon. And my two year old daughter just loves her too!! |

| I'm so sorry to hear about both your pets...... I hope you'll hear some good news soon ...I don't blame you for being concerned....that is so unusual to have two pets with the same problem, I wonder if it could be environmental?

| hi everyone. Just wanted to update you on my baby girl. The vet called me Friday night. They said the pathology report came back observing benign cells called histiocytoma cells. That is the good news. The bad news or "inconclusive" part of it was, the vet said since I only had them aspirate the tumor and take a small sample they STILL want to go in and remove the tumor to make sure they dont find cancerous cells in the rest of the tumor. My hubby of course thinks that is insane because I read on the internet that these type of tumors occur in young dogs and usually resolve themselves within 3 months and to leave them alone if they are not bothering the dog. Well Shena does lick at it a lot, so to me that means she is bothered by it. I think I am going to go ahead with the surgery and have it removed. I will put it on my charge card with my hubby knowing what the cost is. We do have dog insurance, so they will remimburse me 80 percent. I just want to do what is best for Shena. Remove it if that is what is best, or leave it alone... I dont know!! What do you all think???? |

| My GiGi was just diagnosed with a malignant tumor mid way on her tail. We had scheduled surgery for two days later and in the meantime I FLEW for second opinions. The morning of the scheduled surgery I woke up and her tail was soaked....I assumed that the supposed malignant tumor was not that at all and probably a skin reaction to a shampoo that I used a week or so before I found the lump. So I cancelled the surgery...the vet then gave me a topical to put on it and said if it is not malignant it will dry up with the stuff he , JUST NOW (after putting us thru a tail spin, literally) gave us. It did dry up and it is gone scab and all. I called her breeder and she said to keep an eye on it for a few months.....if it comes back it could be a problem (the one the vet said, I hate to say the word). It is hard to tell with out a biopsy....biop is the only way. We of course had a full set of xrays to be sure that nothing has penetrated the rest of the body. And yes to begin with the lump was aspirated. Don't get me wrong to save her from a terminal or any kind of illness I would pay to no limit. But geez couldn't he tell or have a better way of handling the course of events. I was crazy with sadness and fear. I don't want to jinx my baby or tell you not to do everything you can to assure yourself that this thing is not a serious problem to your little peanut. But your baby should have xrays and a biopsy if you are not convinced that surgery is not needed. I have to say I tell this story too much. I just want you to search your sole about this surgery before you have it done . But just keep in mind if it is something that should be removed the sooner the better in my opinion....and remember they know nothing with out a biop. I hoped I hepled you a little knowing that others have and are going thru the same thing as you.....of course I am not a vet or dcotor just a Yorkie lover. Tina |

| She's doing great. Thanks so much for thinking of us. She had it removed yesterday. Last night she was very tired, when she came home, but this morning, she is hobbling around on all three legs like nothing happened! She gets the bandage removed on Friday and the stitches out in 14 days. They said the tumor was a histiocytoma which showed benign. Thank god!!!! |
