Default Lucy spent the day in emergency yesterday...

and I still don't know what's wrong with her...Last Thursday I posted she threw up a couple of times. So I took her to the vet on Friday. He said to watch her and if she does it again or her eating/drinking changes to bring her back. He also put her on drops for an ear infection (which I had suspected). Friday evening she was fine, playing etc.

Saturday morning she was less active than normal and it didn't look like she ate much so I gave her a chicken stick which she ate. Later in the day she started sleeping - not too alarming but I have a hard time getting her to nap when we are home. The groomer came late afternoon and groomed her. It all went downhill from there. She would not stay awake, I couldn't get her to eat or drink. I spent all night watching her sleep checking to make sure she was breathing and took her to emergency yesterday morning at 8:00. They kept her all day and ran a million blood tests and they found was that her sugar was low and she was dehydrated so they pumped her up. I picked her up at 7:00 and got her to eat a little bit of hamburger but she wouldn't drink anything so Thomas force watered her a bit. Also some Nutrical. She is a LITTLE more active today but no where near her old self. I'm sick with worry.

Thomas is going home at lunch to check on her and our housekeeper is there with her today. What can I give her to make her eat? She wouldn't eat any more of the hamburger this morning but she did eat a TINY bit of her dry food. I've never given her much people food but I want her to eat no matter what!

Is it okay to give her Pedialyte to try to keep her hydrated? If she won't drink water what else liquid can I give her?

I'm hoping to get help from here

THat was Layla to a T these past few days but she had diarrhea too.. she wouldn't eat ANYTHING yesterday and slept the day away.. she didn't even want her beloved Ball.... nor would she eat treats... i bought pedialyte and an eye dropper and squirted it down her throat every 15 min... i too was up all night making sure she was breathing.. this morning she was much better... but like someone else said... give her whatever she wants.. cheese... try apple sauce... rice... chicken... yogurt.. well try and stay away from milk products.... if she will eat treats give her treats... just keep putting the water and pedialyte in her... and as long as she keeps that down you are doing ok.. but if she can't even keep that down then bring her to emerg.

When Conner is not feeling well and will not eat, I put a chicken breast in the George Foreman grill, then shred it. I give him a few pieces at a time, and give him water from a dropper. About every half hour or so, I give him a few more pieces. This is the only thing he will eat when he is sick. Hope she is feeling better soon.

I'm so sorry to hear your baby is sick. I had a little girl yorkie once that was sick like that. After the vet put her on an IV for about 45 mins. we brought her home and set our alarm clock for every 2 hour throughout the night and gave her Nutri-Cal and gatorade. She was better by morning.
I hope she feels better soon.

Thumbs up Success!

Thanks everyone. I stopped at the market last evening and bought different baby foods, some Cesar wet food, cottage cheese and the magic fix - Roast Beef! My husband came home and said "yay-you cooked!" lol...

She ate some of the wet food then A LOT of the roast beef We had chicken last night so she also ate a few slices of that...Yay! Keeping my fingers crossed she will continue. She is still sleeping a lot but her energy is much better.

She still isn't drinking enough to make us comfortable so Thomas is force watering her.

Thank you so much for the concern, thoughts and suggestions

Try some chicken and rice. It seems to settle their stomach - i always use the chicken breast because it's leaner. It seems to help. Hope your baby is feeling better soon.

Pedialyte is fine to give her to stay hydrated, if need be. Also, get some Nutrical and if you feel she isn't eating well, give her a dollup of Nutrical to keep the blood sugar up. Most pups really like yogurt as well, just make sure it doesn't contain nutrisweet or any other artificial sweeteners - full fat and fruit is okay as is vanilla flavoring.

Yogurt also helps calm tummy troubles!!!! Good luck with her and I hope she is all better real soon!!!

Boil some chicken breast and then cool it and shred it. Add it to some plain, white rice and mix it together. I used to feed Max those Cesar dog foods and I'd save the little plastic containers. Now I have a hundred of them I think, but I use them to keep the chicken/rice mixture in in the freezer for when Max doesn't feel good. They almost always eat that. If they don't, there's something really wrong with them (at least, in Max's case). Boiling it keeps the chicken moist and it's bland enough that it won't upset their stomach.
I hope Lucy will be ok; she's such a darling little girl!

Pedialite(sp) is good for hydration. Try some chicken and rice, they seem to like that.

I'm so sorry your little girl is sick, is there a flu going around in your area? Did she have a fever when you took her to the Vet?

All my dogs think it is a great treat to drink goats milk, it is in the market where the milk is and get it in the carton, not the can, it is really easy on the stomach, and gives a lot of good nutrition. Maybe ask the Vet to give you some Metoclopramide 5mg, I give it to my little girl that has IBD, and it settles her tummy, and gives her an appetite. She is not doing well, she is old, and I have been feeding her anything just to get food down her.

They love rare lean roast beef, turkey, you can also make her some ground chicken with white or brown rice, with some frozen peas and carrots, cook the ground chicken in a large can of chicken broth and water, than add the frozen veggies, than the rice. When the liquid for the rice is all gone, mix it well, and mash the peas and carrots for her. You can also scramble her an egg with just a little liverwurst, or Braunschweiger, also try a little Karo Syrup in her drinking water to keep her sugar level up.1 TBL. spoon per pint of water. Also AD from your vet is very tasty, and full of calories, my mommies love it when having babies, as their tummy's are upset, and they have to eat to make milk, and all of them love it, it is so easy on the tummy.

Hope some of these ideas help, my prayers are for your little one to be feeling better in no time. Keep an eye on her stools, I don't know if you are giving her gerber chicken sticks, or the dried chicken sticks, the dried ones are not good for some of the tiny yorkies they can not digest them, and a friend of mine had to have surgury on her puppies as they were causing a blockage. Best of luck, look forward to how she is responding.

Hi Kathy - How is Lucy? I remember your post from last week. I find that my guys LOVE parmesan sprinkle (the kind in the green can) - I always sprinkle it on their boiled chicken. I think bc it has a nice, strong smell - they like it. So, you might even try sprinkling it on her kibble, wet food, some yogurt or cottage cheese, chicken etctera. Does she like cereal? I give my guys Kashi GoLean and they go crazy - some carbs might help settle her tummy too.

Did they EVER find out what it was? How scary for you! I wonder if it's the canine Montezuma's revenge after your Zihua trip. Keep me posted.

Great idea - thanks!

She is much better today-she seems to like lean roast beef

She still sleeps alot. We are still forcing her fluids but she was much more active this morning.

The couldn't find anything wrong which amazes me since they ran about $800in tests. Bottom line is she was dehydrated and low blood sugar.

Thanks everyone for asking, I really appreciate your thoughts
