| Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Now with me, when I had Diggy's Bile Acid test they only had him fast 6 hours, it ended up being 8 as his test was at 9 am and he didnt eat after 1 am I wonder if they just adjust to the amount of time they fast? And I agree if he doesnt bounce right up from the siezure it may be something else, although Diggy after his first stream of seizures did not get back to right for a week. He was exhausted and not playful at all. Very timid and lethargic but that was at 8 weeks old and 1.3 pounds I think it really takes a huge toll on the little ones.....his next seizure didnt come for almost 2 weeks later and that time I instantly grabbed Kayro and within 10 seconds he was up playing and TOTALLY normal. I did go ahead with Bile Acid tho. It does give you peace of mind. My bile acid was $45 each draw post and pre. Then ya have to have the fecal again just to see the status of coccidia, and office visit I got out of there for about $145 but WELL worth every penny!

| Yorkieluv, Thanks for the message. When we took Odie in for treatmet for his seizures, we were adament with the doctors to run any tests they needed to, just to make sure there wasn't any underlying issues. Based on the research we had done, a liver shunt was a major concern that we had - and one that we really wanted the doctors to rule out. Because they couldn't starve him for 12 hours to do the bile acidic test, they did a bunch of blood work and performed an ultrasound of his liver. Blood was flowing normally from the liver and the doctor said that further tests were not worth the expense. They said they were "95% sure it wasn't a liver shunt". Hopefully they are right. They also did neurological tests, including a test that determines if there is water on the brain. All came back negative. The reason was determined to be hypoglysemia, caused by coiccidia and anorexia. |

| That's so wonderful that they went ahead and did an ultrasound to check the liver out. Good vets you have there! Hypoglycemia can be dealt with, and that nasty coccidia will eventually go away. Just keep up with the treatment, and get him to eat however you can. My Miko had the exact same problem as your baby, coccidia, hypoglycemia, and severely underweight. At 12 weeks when we got him, he was only 1 lb 2 oz. He is now 11 lbs and not an oz overweight. So, you can imagine how much he SHOULD have weighed at that time. Have you tried chicken and rice...Noodles with a little low sodium chicken broth with mashed up veggies and chicken? Oatmeal made with water...egg and rice. I will pray for your baby to recover quickly. And yes, the fecal test can come back negative and your baby may still have coccidia....So, it's good to keep him on that Albon for probably 3 rounds if it's severe case of it...I know exactly what you are going through. This is very stressful, but just remember that your baby will get better? How old is he again?

Wow AWESOME vets to run all that and AWESOME parents to know and trust that they should! I love to hear people say "do whatever needs to be done" Thats what I did, and yes my checking account was seriously drained and I was flat broke but, I had a happy, healthy Yorkie baby filled with love and affection....soooo worth every penny!! I hope he is eating some of the stuff suggested to you. I sure hope that nasty coccidia goes away too, I got VERY lucky with Diggy it was gone in the first round of Albon whcih the vet thought it may take 2-3 but it worked in one! I had 3 exams done after the first negative result because I didnt believe it was gone but sure enough it really was PLease let us know how lil Odie is today! I thought about him all night and your story really made me look back at my experiance....Soooo Scary. There is a big ole shiny bright light tho at the end of your tunnel! do you have any pics of your lil guy?? Id love to share pics with ya!

| I have been through the hypoglycemia....and PLEASE let me give you some very valuable advice that I learned the hard way. DO NOT give your sick baby A/D...it is WAY too rich.....give him I/D, it is bland, and if you can get him to eat it, it will put the weight on him. I even keep some cans on hand in case Toby gets sick over the weekend, since it takes a prescription......Toby almost died because my OLD vet gave him A/D food and it made him sicker than he already was!!! Good luck with your baby....... |

| Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Im not sure if this is my place but I have given it 3 days and Original Poster has not logged back in. I see people are still responding and trying to help and it's gone past that now. She (Odie's mom) sent me a PM on Monday that Odie has passed. Obviously it was not just Hypoglycemia he had other issues and obviously these issues were much more serious than anyone thought. My heart goes out to you Odie, and I am happy you are not suffereing any longer.

| You need to force feed this baby until he gets back to eating. Feed him about every 2 to 4 hours during the waking hours. Once a puppy has a attack like this it takes 24 to 48 hours to return to normal. I would also give this puppy some acidolphlis (sp) you can buy it at any store in the health food dept. This helps put good bacteria in the tummy which is what he needs after taking a round of antibiotics. It also helps him to get over the Coccidia. I am a breeder and this is what I do for hypoglycemic puppy's and they will pull through with no problems. Good luck and let me knopw if you need anymore help. |
