Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Help My baby has had bile-acid test he was very low and test was good 5 pre 7 post Vet said low blood sugar must be hypoglycemia. He had 7 hour fast. he is 11 weeks 4 day and 2.1 lbs. I have treated him as hypo baby and we went back to vet just yesterday....he has gined a pound in 2 weeks, growing healthy happy. He slept normal last nignt, did not eat in the middle of the night though. I usually use nutrical when he is really tired and going to sleep for a long time or wont eat. During the day he eats just fine not picky and eats ample amounts of food. I ake sure he eats every 3-5 hours and always allow to free feed. Vet JUST said he is perfectly fine. Oh I forgot to tell you one night over 2 weeks ago he had multiple seizures and I did not know to treat with Kayro. After his first (5 second) seizure he can out of it and ate. He the went back to sleep and through the night had 6 more. They finally stopped and I had bile acid ran and learned a lot more about what I was doing and possible caues. Well after being great for 2 weeks he had another seizure at 7 am this morning. I rubbed with Kayro he bounced right up and wanted to eat. He played with my Bella and now laid back down to sleep. I gave nutrical also. Its been one hour and 15 minutes.....Think this is hypo again?? He went last night almost 8 hours withour eating. BUT he does tis every night. He ate b4 bed as usual but he did make a stressful trip tp vet, and FREAKED OUT during car ride. He acted totlly normal after getting him home tho. Was this trip out enuff to set off a major sugar drop 15 hours after vet trip?? He is sleeping right now, has nutrical in him (bb size amount) ate pleanty of food drank water and played a bit....What is going on??? I cannot stop crying and worrying!!!!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm so sorry, hon! So scary. I still give Marcel Nutrical occ. and he's almost 6 mths old. The vet trip and trip home sounded really stressful for your baby, so his blood sugar could have still been in recovery later. It sounds like it could've been low....and, he's only 11 weeks, still a baby. For the 1st 6 wks I had Marcel, I'd give him Nutrical right before he went to bed and right when he woke up, just to be sure. These little guys' blood sugar can go quick. Perhaps you might give Nutrical more regularly until your baby is 4-5 months or so?

| I have always read that yorkies had this problem. One of mine did have some after we got a pup and put her on diet kibble. I could not get them to do Karo so I bought mini marshmellows and give them as treats once or twice a day and she has not had any more episodes. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | hi iM JUST TOTALLY STRESSING!!! Its now been 2.5 hours since his seizure...he has naped 2 times for 20-30 minutes and up playing with Bella eating drinking and playing! Acting totally normal. His seizures are VERY short. 5 seconds or so and it took about 5 seconds after kayro for him to go to food bowl...... Does this sound like a hypo episode??

| They don't come out of a hypo episode without intervention. Did you give him Karo this last time? If so yes, it sounds like hypoglycemia, if not then he may have something else wrong. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | No the first time I did not give him Kayro I had NO idea what I was dealing with. He had 7 siezures in 7 hours. He did eat some food after his first 2 seizes then nothing and they came more frequent. Then after 7 hours off and on he came out of it. They are very short seizes is that how they usually go? Now after self educating about Hypo and Liver issues.....I did bile-acid that was great. Did show low blood sugar tho, thi morning siezure...his gums were gray/white and a couple seconds with Kayro he was fine. He ate and I gave nutrical...it's been 3.5 hours he is playing and fine. He has pooped nd peed like normal and back to the same happy diggy. What should I think??

How were his other numbers on the bloodwork and have you notified the breeder of your situation?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had 3 hypoglycemic episodes when she was between 9 weeks and 6 -7 months. 2 were in the morning when we woke up andone was after I had had her at my parents apartment and she came home in the evening and slept for hours and I went to wake her up and she was stumbling and walking all funny and stiff looking, I rushed her to the er vet after giving her syrup and they kept her overnight and di bile acid tests on her. SHe does have a mild liv er shunt but they didn't feel the hypoglycmia was related. She just grew out of it. Idid feed her every 3-4 hours for months and now at 2 I feed her 3 times a day and free feed kibble. So hopefully your baby will grow out of it and you just have to continue watching closely that she eats often enough. Good luck

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | thanks thanks for replying. I guess I am trying to narrow this down to when he tends to have episodes and why. His Bile acid was ggreat so I am putting that on back burner right now....he did show low blood sugar in testing so treating as that. Did your baby sieze or just stagger?? His first time was tiny seizures but I wasnt aware to use the kayro, so not sure if that would have bounced him back. I know the one this morn he has been perfect ever since, eating and all. This is crazy to me.....So I am assuming his sleeping long periods of time with no food is the trigger.....thanks for input...anyones elses is greatly appreciated!! Good luck with ur baby.
