Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Poor Jack! Godspeed to a full recovery. Ozzie has a similar condition but we were advised against surgery. Vet said he would likely have more trouble with the surgery than without. (Cautioned that it could result in complete incontinence.) He was neutered last year with the hope that the cessation of hormones would help it to correct itself but while that did seem to temporarily solve it, it comes back regularly. Symptoms are temporary and don't seem as severe as your guys. (His butt swells a little and I can usually tell before I even check because he is hesitant about jumping on or off the sofa.) Then, it's gone that night or maybe the next day. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() I just talked to the vet, and he agreed that it sounds like Jack could benefit from the surgery. He said if he was 14, 15, he might advise against it, but he just turned 11 and he's otherwise as healthy as a horse. He said he wants to do some bloodwork and examine him and discuss it with me because the surgery is "not a no-brainer." I imagine he'll warn me about the risks Ozzie'sperson mentioned. Thanks, btw. He has an appointment for Wednesday to be examined. In the meantime, I'll hit the Web and see what I can find. Thanks again for your thoughts, you guys. I've felt guilty about not doing this surgery earlier, and it's always been a concern. If I get reasonable assurance that it will be successful, I think it's worth the risk.

| ![]() Healing thoughts and well wishes are being sent your way. It's always hard to decide on surgery; especially after a beloved animal is still recovering from another procedure. Jack's been doing so well for the past year; and in that time he's completely healed and recovered from his leg surgery. Don't feel bad, Mike, your reasoning for waiting on the surgery was sound. Now Jack is healthier, and better able to withstand the stresses of the hernia surgery. Good luck; we are pulling for you. ![]()
