Low blood sugar and seizures My little 8 week old, 1# female puppy had seizures earlier this afternoon. We gave her nutrical when someone suggested it. I was too upset to remember to use it. I gave her the first puppy shot yesterday and that is all I could think of that would cause her behaviour. She got better but not back to normal. A while ago she got a drink and stumbled. My husband picked her up and held her. She spit up on him and then wanted down. A very short time later I noticed she still wasn't acting right so I picked her up and a bit later she vomited all over me. I held her for a while and she wanted down again. I put her back in the xpen, otherwise she goes to hide behind the sofa. She got into the bed and I went to change my shirt and to the bathroom. When I came back I noticed the bedding looked wet, it was, she must have vomited at least 3 more times. She is laying in my other hand sleeping peacefully now. My son had seizures for several months. After each seizure he was very disoriented. Are dogs the same way? Sylvia

I know that after people have seizures they are disoriented for a few hours after and I guess dogs would be the same but I don't know about how long. Have you given her anymore nutrical. Try to keep lights low, no noise, nothing to stimulate her. I hope she gets better. Maybe you should take her to the vet tomorrow.

I would guess the vaccination has something to do with what she's going through. Sounds like she is vomiting too much. You should take her to the emergency hospital - She's going to get dehydrated if it keeps up and she's too small and young to not get help. She won't be able to keep things down right now, tummy is too upset. Please go. Let us know how she does. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

I will take her to the vet tomorrow if she isn't better. She ate about 1/4 tube of nutrical but has refused it since then. My friend suggested I scramble an egg for her to get some protein in her. She ate very little of that and has not eaten anything that I have seen. My friend also suggested I put some karo syrup in the water so she keeps getting a little sugar. I did that too. She wanted down and got a drink, she's sleeping in the bed again. Sylvia

Try giving her this formula if she doesn't perk up... 1/2 cup half and half 1/2 cup baby rice cereal 1 jar meat baby food, anything but turkey 1 tsp. karo or pancake syrup Luna's Mommy posted it and it has helped SO many people on here with hypoglycemia problems. I believe 10 cc's is the dosage you give them before going to bed but I suppose you could give them a dosage anytime they were having hypoglycemic problems.. Hope your little girl is feeling better and if she isn't better by tomorrow I hope the vet will be able to find out what the problem is and fix it. I'll be keeping her in my prayers...

Yes, but I thought since she said she wasn't eating she might have problems with hypoglycemia given her tiny size and I've heard good things about that formula and even pups without an appetite eating it so I thought it might help...

| Keep her hydrated, they go down fast and she's very young. They may need to give her fluids intravenously. She may just be hypoglycemic or she may have some sort of internal parasite like coccidia. If the fecal tests come back negative, and she's still having problems, do bloodwork or a bile acid test...When Miko was pup, he vomitted a lot and had seizures (like staring blankly into space and stumbling or falling sideways). Even though the vet did bloodwork and it was pointing towards liver shunt, the emergency vet that we went to said "no, he doesn't have that, he has ___" Later on, we found out that he did indeed had a liver shunt. She also said he wouldn't make it through the night, and here he is 2.5years later! I really don't want to alarm you, but it always scares me when I hear others having similar experiences. I feel like I have to share our experience. It could just be an upset tummy, but it could be worse. The best way to find out is by taking your baby to the vet.
