| Maddie had an infection in her incision about 3 days after her surgery. It was red and swollen and I kept a onesie on her and would notice the blook and pus stains on the shirt. If his incision is oozing at all, he more than likely has an infection. Just take him back to whoever did the surgery because follow up should be free, except you'd have to pay for the medications. Good luck! Maddie sends get well kisses!

| Yorkie in Pain & Vomiting I think if he is in pain &/or vomiting, you should take him in. Call the nasty vet first & ask if you get a free follow-up visit. If he says no, then go elsewhere---but I would definitely write a letter to the nasty vet & tell him why you are never coming back! Sure hope your poor baby is feeling better soon. I can't imagine a vet not giving a painkiller when a dog is getting spayed or neutered. |

| Thanks everyone! He's actually acting MUCH better. I'm still keeping a close eye on him though. He hasn't thrown up anymore, and the incision looks normal, no redness or swelling or oozing or anything like that. He's still been resting the whole day, but when it's time to go outside he'll run once he's out to go to the grass. He even wanted to go play with another dog being walked, lol. I think he's just not moving as much because it might hurt him. His ears are going up and down, he's very alert. Does anyone know how long after a cryptorchid castration the dog is more calm? I would assume it would be longer then a regular nueter, but I'm not sure how long. If his condition doesn't get better soon though, I'll definitly take him in. On a brighter note...he pooped outside!!!! It was in the neighbors section of the yard, but were still soo proud of him for doing it outside for once!

It's when one of the testicals hasn't dropped yet, so they had to go inside him to get it. I think I answered my own question! Today he's his normal self, running around playing. He won't go up the stairs, probably because the past few days when he goes by them I tell him "no" and pick him up to carry him up/down. I'm so glad he's doing better

| With no fever and no oozing I probably would have waited it out a day too. A neuter is painful and it is more invasive when they have to search for the testical so I would suspect him to be in pain and a little under the weather for three or four days. I don't think giving antibiotics is routine, but I always insist on pain killers because I would want them for myself. Some vets feel that if you give pain killers then you numb the pain and they are more likely to move around too much, but I think the pain killers make them sleepy so it all evens out. Of course, there are the side effects to worry about with giving any medication. Glad he's doing better. |
