I think Rocky's stitches are infected Last night and this morning he's been walking really low to the ground. So this morning I picked him up to take him downstairs, and he yelps! I look at his incision, and part of it is REALLY REALLY red. It wasn't red like this before, and now that i look at it again it could be dryed up blood, but it shouldn't be bleeding anyways. Do you guys think I should take him to the vet for this? I know signs of infection do include excessive redness, but this vet is soo rude to me I don't want to deal with them and go there, they'll probably say "Why are you even bringing him here". I"m waiting for my bf too call me to see if he has money so I can take him elsewhere. Also, with a cryptorchid castration and teethpulling, does anyone know if they should be given antibiotics and/or painkillers? He was given nothing. I can take a picture of the infection if anyone wants to see it to get a better view, but it's kinda graphic so I didn't want to right away. |
If he is yelping when you pick him up and the incision is very red, I would definitely take him in. If you don't feel comfortable with your vet, go to another one. I wouldn't wait this out - get him seen today if at all possible. I'm not sure about antiobiotics for neutering, but they are not normally given during the spay procedure. Sissy got 4 teeth pulled during her spay and I know lots others here have had teeth pulled during neutering/spaying as well. I don't recall anyone talking about being given a preventative antibiotic. Please keep us posted. |
I agree you should take him to the vet right away. As far as antibiotics or pain killers, Hobbs was not given either of those when he got neutered and had teeth pulled. Hope Rocky starts feeling better! Poor little boy. :( |
I would take him in as well. When my Brooklyn got neutered last week, they gave him two antibiotics. |
Thanks guys. First I'm going to take him where he was originally taken. Even though I don't like this place, they know what they did. Plus, I shouldn't be charged if it's a follow-up right? I can't take him until 3 though because that's when they re-open. I have no money at all to take him anywhere else, but if it goes bad here then I'll really have no choice. Please wish BOTH of us luck! I think I'm going to take an alcohal swab and try and wipe and see if it is blood, does anyone know if there is a reason I shouldn't do this? |
I would take him in. I wasnt given antibiotics but was given pain killers but not all vets give them |

I did try the alcohal (before I read any responses) but wiped around the incision, not the incision itself so it didn't bother him. But it wasn't blood because nothing came off. I'm going to take him in at 3. |

Hope your baby is ok, and i tell you if my vet treated me that way , it would be the last time he would see me or my Pets. But not till i told him off good ! |

Oh trust me, It would be like that, but when I'm jobless and it's saving a couple hundred dollars, well that kinda makes my choice for me you know. After his stitches are out though we won't be going there again. |
How'd the vet visit go and how's the pup? |

He also threw up today though. He's been really calm, just laying down in his tent and kinda hiding through-out the whole day. I took his temp and it was 100.3, so since it wasn't high I think I'm going to wait it out tonight and see how he acts. I'm staying home from class so I can keep an eye on him, and be here if he needs anything. What would you guys do if your dog was acting like this? Would you take him in right away, or do you think it's OK if I watch him through out the night. |
I would take him in especially with the vomiting. JMO I took CAli in today for bad breath!! They must think I'm nuts! Good luck! |
I would take him in...he did vomit, and he was in pain. However it's up to you. You know you're baby best and you can read his behavior. So if he seems ok, and you said the redness is down, watch him and make sure he's not messing with the stiches. If he vomits again or his temp goes up I would take him asap |
