Nervous Mommy here Thank the Lord for you guys or I'd go nuts with my every little worry. Nemo was doing perfectly well today, no real problems to report, but right before bed he got a little rambunctious and then rushed for some water. A little bit later he started to act like he wanted to vomit but he just couldn't seem to bring it up. Now he's acting all weird, he's digging at the bed and whining (he never does that) and sometimes he'll do the weird choking thing again. Am I just being paranoid?

The clearing of the throat and gagging could indicate tonsillitis (especially since you had the flu last week). None of mine have ever had tonsillitis, but they do say Yorkies are prone to it. The way to tell if it might be tonsillitis is the tonsils are swollen. You can feel little lumps when tonsils get infected. The lumps are just at the angle of the jaw bone. That also might be why he was vomiting last week. They also tend to not eat or drink well and just act quiet. The digging and whining might be an indication that there is pain involved. Another thought would be roundworms. Dogs pick up the eggs by coming into contact with the feces containing the eggs. The eggs enter the dog's body by way of the mouth. When the eggs reach the dog's small intestine, they penetrate the intestinal wall and move into the bloodstream. Next, they are carried to the lungs, where they go into the air passages and migrate up to the trachea and into the esophagus. From the esophagus, they are swallowed and move down again to the intestines where they mature into worms. This migration from small intestine and back again takes 10 days.

Hey Lacy's Mom... thanks for responding so quickly! I can't really feel anything around his jaw line but I'll have my brother check it out tomorrow. Should I watch him tomorrow and see how he continues or just try to take him to the vet? Are there any other signs I should be on the watch for? My brother says I'm probably overreacting (and I must admit I do tend to do that when it comes to him) and checked him before he went to bed... he said he was breathing fine and had probably just drunk water too quickly after his gymnastics routine. He's finally calmed down and settled into his normal nighttime routine so my brother was probably right, it's just so hard when they can't tell you what's wrong. I'm going to try to get some shut-eye before I have to get up for work... I'll probably be sleeping with one eye open tonight. Anyway, thanks again!

He may have just gotten some water up his nose while drinking sometimes Yorkies can act crazy. The only reason I am a little concerned is because of the vomiting at Halloween. I would say take his temp. but tonsillitis nor worms would should show an elevation. I think you could probably watch him for a day or two, but if the gagging continues or any vomiting make an appointment.
