| Our sadie is very sick Hi, I am new and I just got out of bed to get on line to try to find someone on the web that may offer us some ideas about our Yorkie. Sadie is nine yrs old and has been in our family since a puppy. She belonged to my mother in law and about 1.5 yrs before my mother in law passed away she let my husband and I know that she wanted Sadie to be w/us because she could tell that we loved her very much. She did well when she came to live w/us which really surprised me because I didn't know how she would react to moving from the only home she had ever known. She came to live w/us last October and on this past labor day weekend she had a shaking attack per say. She was shaking so much her ears looked as if she was shivering uncontrollably and it was not a bit cold. We thought something had scared her but we didn't know what. The shaking spells happened a few more times and then she quit eating and drinking much as well as her BMs lessened and now when she has a BM it is long skinny black and tarry. We have taken her to the vet 2 xs and he has given her worm pills because I at first thought her BMs looked as if she may have worms. She never passed what I thougth looked like a worm again until last night. The last time we took her to the vet was a week ago last Friday and he thougth Sadie had possibly hurt her back and he gave her a shot and sent medicine (Matacam) home w/us to give her daily. She is no better, she can hardly jump at all, she can't/won't eat, she mopes and if we try to help her she goes under a couch as if to say don't touch me. We are going to the vet again in the morning but he has not once ran any blood tests or anything diagnostic. He just basically looks at her. Oh I almost forgot-the time before last I took her to the vet when I thought she had worms-because of the bms I saw-she had also been rubbing circles sitting on her butt on the floor-the vet released her anal glands or something to that nature. Does anyone have any ideas because I want to help Sadie and I don't know what to do. She is loosing weight fast and she is not that big to begin with. Help in Indiana? |

| Sorry about this I press the wrong button and could not edit the post, that the wrong website. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear Sadie is not well and unfortunately I have not came across something like this, but I have done the run around with the vet office that I had been with for about 15 yrs. I like you got on the Internet and search to help, I found a gentleman in my area that I spoke to for hours and he suggested I go to a new vet. He contacted other yorkie owners in my area for a new vet for me. They recommended VCA Animal Hospital...they did blood work, x rays (even requested old x rays and chart), and they did a EKG using the phone line to the University of Chicago vet heart specialist. I was so grateful for the interest they showed for Buffy's health. So what I'm trying to say is go to a new vet!!! They have office's all over, I have put their website here for you in case you don't have another vet to take her. http://www.vcapets.com/couponpromo/?...0hospital%20or I hope this helps and please come back and give us an update on Sandie. We wish you both well and a fast and smooth recovery.

| I agree - you need to find a new vet asap. Sounds like the one you're seeing is rather apathetic. I have no idea what the problem might be, but sounds like the baby is in pain. Best of luck to you and keep us posted. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm so sorry and I agree - NEW VET !!! She sounds like she does have something going on but a vet is the one to tell you for sure....you could have him check her for pancreatitis if she's losing weight and also Liver shunt....gosh - there's lots that can cause them to lose weight - poor baby - I can see you really love her and she does need some tests run in order them to treat her.... Wishing you all the best !!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | A new vet as soon as possible. I have routine blood work done on my 9 1/2 year old Pom every yera now just to keep an eye on her general health and I have blood work done very 6 months on Cali as she has a mild liver shunt and want to keep on top of it. I hope you can get her in to a good vet soon and get a difinitive diagnosis on her and the proper treatment. Also, Welcome and keep us posted on how Sadie is doing.

| Absolutely a new vet. You rarely can tell what's wrong by simply looking at the dog.

| Don't know where you are in Indiana, but Purdue is in W. Lafayette and there is an Animal hospital on hwy 52 in Lafayette. They are wonderful, their phone number is 765-449-2001. Also the Vet I go to is great. Doesn't guess at things, and runs what tests he feels will give him an answer. Hope this helps some.

| Sadie definitely needs to go to a vet that really cares. Your vet should have done bloodwork right off the bat. Sending prayers for poor Sadie for a correct diagnosis and speedy recovery.

| Im not anywhere near you so I cant really tell you of any good vets in the area, but I agree with everyone else that you definately NEED to get a new vet. The one you are currently using seems to be doing NOTHING to help poor Sadie. I hope that you find out what is wrong and that she feels better real soon. Good luck hun and please keep us posted. Hugs and kisses and prayers to you and your baby.

| Definitely needs a new vet - dogs can't talk so only tests and a knowledgeable vet are going to find out what is wrong. I will keep her in my prayers. Please update. With no diarrhea I wouldn't suspect it to be a parasite of any kind. The black stools could indicate blood in the feces (but there is an easy test your vet can do to tell if it is blood). I am sure they are thin just because she is not eating very much. I would go buy some nutrical or nutristat at a petstore. It is a high calorie nutritional supplement for dogs that aren't eating enough. It comes in a tube is about $8.00 and most dogs will readily lick it off your finger. I would also put her on boiled chicken (no skin, prefereably white meat) and rice because it is very easy to digest until her stools and appetite improve. |
