Donating YT 30K Club Member | YIKES!!!! I guess as long as the vet says not to worry and He didn't actually eat any of it he should be ok. What did you do with the squirrel? Animal control may want it to make sure what it died from.

| YUCK!! Maybe you should call animal control and ask about if they want to see how this squirell died. Maybe your little guy caught and killed the squirell himself. Mine have caught birds before. My Sunshine brought me in a dead mouse once, Im sure she killed it. Ahh the joys of owning terriers.. My friends yorkies kill all kinds of things in her back yard. One brought a snake in once. As gross as it sounds they are just doing what comes naturally

| Dead Squirell? The only problem you are likely to have, is tapeworms, and that is only if your dog gets fleas from the squirrel. If he is on a regular flea control system, he will be fine. My Yorkie spent an hour and a half in a culvert with a muskrat last April. When she finally deeked out, I was able to grab her just as she was heading in again. She had a fair bit of blood on her, but I did not see the muskrat again-I suspect it managed to escape although the other end of the culvert was covered. The photo below is immediately after the event. Last night, I found her in the woodshed with a large vole-she took off like a bat out of hell before I could get it. I carried it into the house so she would follow, gave her a treat and managed to drop the vole outside, just in front of the mama cat that I rescued. Mama enjoyed it-even growled at her kittens when they investigated-and Kia was happy with a bit of chicken. She has often been given rodents by one of my cats-I manage to get them away from her pretty fast! The funniest thing I ever saw was Kia in a tack box with four little mice. She was so excited, she didn't know what to do, and they kept hiding under her hair, she kept turning around and lifting her feet, but she couldn't see them. Finally, OrangeKat jumped in and out of the box without stopping, but took a mouse with her-she got them all. Last year Kia and Gunner-my GSP-tried to kill a vole that Kia actually caught all by herself. It took them an hour-I suspect Gunner, all 105 pounds of him, finally stepped on it! |

| What is a Vole? A vole is really a mouse-like rodent, larger than a mouse, but smaller than a rat. It looks much like a field mouse, but has a shorter tail and can be up to seven inches or so-at least here in Ontario. Mind you, the hind end of one I found on my walkway the other morning seemed more rat-size than not. It disappeared- probably another cat managed to finish it off. I found I had a rat in the barn one evening in the winter; Kia was upside down in a shavings bag that had been filled with other bags for burning. I tipped the bag onto the ground, and she managed to get in further. To help her, I pulled out one of the other folded bags, and a rat, about eight inches darted out. Then the hunt was on; Gunner tried to get under the tool box, Kia tried to get between his legs and follow the rat around the corner under the shelves, they both attempted to climb through a small hole at the same time.... The rat managed to get out through the pump box, but now all I have to say is "Get the RAT!", and Kia is runs wildly snuffling all around the barn. On Thursday evening Kia and I were walking up the road, about seven o'clock, when about 200 feet in front of us, I saw a coyote come through the ditch, across the road, and angle across my friends' driveway and orchard between their house and the road. At first I thought it was a fox, as it was quite red, but then I realized that it was probably the same coyote my daughter and I saw in the field behind mine when riding last week. Anyway, when we got to where it crossed the road, Kia found the scent. Was she ever interested! She followed the track across the drive and angled across the orchard; she never goes into the field on her own, as she wants to go up the drive to see my friends and their dog. We got halfway through the orchard before I could distract her enough to continue to the house. The scent was HOT! I can just imagine the coyote's laughter should it see Kia heavy on the scent, ready to run the varmint down.... all eight pounds of her! Then there are the times there is a skunk around the house.... |

| I have had my dogs get a squirrel before. I think more often than not, they got one that was hit by a car or something. I never had any problems. And - oh yes- mine have brought a few birds home too and other things they have found. I live next to a state park and have a pasture in my backyard .... if I had to worry about everything my dogs or cats have ever discovered and brought home - I'd never get anything else done. | mighty hunter When Windsor was a little fella he thought he'd chase a squirrel that dared to enter the yard, of course it was bigger than he was and chased back, that ended that. Now he chases birds, hasn't caught one yet but he has caught and killed three mice.

| I hope you're feeling better now after reading everyone's stories! I actually laughed out loud. Fun Kitty gets mice frequently (yuck). First time, I freaked! But I've gotten used to it, and the only problem he's ever had is tapeworm. (which is easily resolved with one little pill) Romeo should be fine.
