Im sorry if my post came across harsh to anyone, but just wanted to stress the fact "to everyone to please have those EMERGENCY NUMBERS handy".

I hope your baby is going to be ok and that the meds will help him. Thoughts and prayers your way.

Again sorry if I hurt your feelings, that was not my intention. Please keep us posted on his progress, we are all praying for his complete recovery.

Gosh, I hope your little one gets better really soon. It is so worrying when they are sick, especially since they can't tell us where it hurts Please keep us posted on his hopefully speedy recovery. I read these posts about these sick or hurt little ones and I keep thinking of them and how they are doing, so please let us know. I wish you the best!!

I hope your baby is feeling better real soon. I find it hard to imagine myself being I live in the Northeast and have access to vet hospitals 24/7 , in which I am very grateful. Once again.. I am glad to hear that he is feeling better. Keep us posted.

The vet has given him 3 prescriptions, 1 to lower his phosphate levels, another to help any digestive system ulcers that could have appeared, and on to lower his acid levels(digestive system).

I got him to eat some rice and hamburger, about 1/4 of a cup. It is now a waiting game of nursing him, and seeing if he goes up hill or down hill.

on a different note, Yorkie24U, please do not lecture me. I fully realize what you are saying, but do not speak to me as if I did nothing for him. I was doing all that I could, and I did come here for MORE help. You were not here, you do not know how things happened. There is NO emergency vet around, I live in a rural area. The vet said he could come in after he did his early morning "farm chores". If coming online is going to be reprimanded with attitude, then there is no need for a sick & injured forum. I am not disagreeing with what you said, but how you said it. Posts of that manner only discourage help on this site. That is all that I have to say to you. I do not need this.

I'm glad you got him to the vet!!! Hopefully we'll hear more good news of his progress. As for no emergency vet being around, if theres anyone who DOESN'T believe you, I can vouche, I've been in Southern Illinois and there is NOTHING, so I believe that their wouldn't be an emergency vet around you

Default For anyone who's interested...

Just thought I'd post this info for future reference:

Aspca Animal Poison Control Center Hotline
As the premier animal poison control center in North America, the APCC is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $55 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card.

It did cost me, but when I went into a panic because Ginger had ingested some floor cleaner, they were a lifesaver.

Don't know if there are any that do it for free.

Default Joysie,

I'm glad you were able to get your little one to the vet and that things are looking okay. Please keep us posted on his progress.

I bet you were terrified. It's a horrible and helpless feeling when our furbabies are sick!

Love Prayers for you & your pup

Please let us know how he does. I can just imagine how frightening & upsetting something like that can be. I pray that he will make a complete recovery.

How big is your dog? Its hard to imagine what the dose equivalent would be to a dog getting even one human pill. Scares me even to think about it. My husband and I are getting to the age where we take lots of pills and don't see real well. I am always scared I will drop one and Little Bit will find it before we do. Our nearest emergency vet would be a good trip too.

Sorry didn't mean to make it "all about me". Good luck to you both & God bless.

This is a good hint for those taking meds. Store your meds in a drawer. Then when you need to take them, hold your bottle over the drawer to pour out your pills. This way if a pill drops accidently, it falls into the drawer and not your floor where your dog will find it later. This might help in the future for you.

I didn't want to go off topic but knowing this situation comes up occasionally thought this would be a good time to post this hint.

I hope your baby is all better soon, I'm still praying!!

Please update how he is doing. I hope the meds have him back to normal. If not, please mention this to your vet....gosh, I'm trying to figure out how to say it. Anyway, I was talking to the guy who I buy my food from for my Yorkies. He told me about his 2 Yellow Labs that drink excessively and couldn't control their bladders because they peed excessively. He had them tested and tested.....it ended up being called Diabetes _________ something. Not just diabetes, but there was a word on the end of it. If you mention it to your vet, he'd know what it was. He also mentioned that his vet said that if the dogs weren't treated for it, they'd die without an ENDLESS supply of water. I sure do hope this isn't what your little guy has. Oddly, this guy has to put drops in their eyes every day....it cleared the problem right up. The hard part being that it cost $75.00 for one teaspoon full (enought to last him 12 days) and he can only buy it a teaspoon full at a time. I truly do hope your little man is doing much better.

I have diabetes mellitus. Is that the word that you were looking for? It's true you are constantly thirsty and looking for a bathroom.

Subject: DKC- FREE poison-control hotline
1+785-532-5679

>forwarded with permission:
Kansas State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is offering a
FREE 24 hours poison control hotline for pet owners and
veterinarians.
1+785-532-5679 is the number and the service has been available
since 1969. Dr Oehme, a vet and professor in toxicology and
pathology oversees the hotline. Dr Oehme offers these suggestions:

Be patient. The person answering the phone may have to take a few
minutes to consult the vet on duty.

Call as soon as possible. Immediate attention might save your
animal. But waiting to see if there is a reaction could cost your animal
their life.

Have any product labels available for answers. The vet might need
to know milligrams and generic names.

Know your pet. Drooling could only mean he is thrilled to see you!

Know that the toxicologists are also taking calls from vets about
other animals and other problems, including those problems with
large animals.

Permission to cross post!

Just in case......
I sure hope your baby is doing better.

I am glad your baby is doing better. Hope the meds continue to work for him.
It must be scary not to have emergency help in the area. You must have been so frightened. I have an emergency hospital only 2 miles from me.
I always complained of the cost but won't do that again. Now I know how lucky I am to have them. Carol
