| Prayers for Thumper I am so nervous as Thumper is going in for surgery on Wednesday to have a bump on his back removed and they need to biopsy it for cancer. This post may be all over the place but bare with me as I try and get my thoughts written down. I am beyond nervous. Thumper has always has a small lump on his back. A few years ago I had it looked at by my old vet (switched because I don't like him) and he said it was nothing and to not worry about it. Well I always forget to mention it to the new vet because I usually keep his hair longer and don't see it. Kind of out of sight out of mind. Well I recently, had him groomed last week and saw the bump again. It was the same size and not bleeding so I left it alone. Well a week passes and this past Sunday, I I noticed it burst and was bleeding. So I called the vet and took him in. His usual vet was not in but we saw a different one at the clinic. (I really liked her) immediately she said it is a tumor and needs to be removed surgically. She said they need to biopsy it because it looks cancerous to her and depending on the grade level will determine the treatment and if I need to see an oncologist. I am hoping for the best and it is benign but they won't know until it is removed. Overall he is a happy dog. He does not lick the site or even notice it is there. In addition to the lump removal he has some smaller lump (skin tags as the vet called them) that she is going to remove as well. And finally, he is going to have his dental done at that time. He is due for a dental and the vet recommended it since he will already by under anesthesia. I am wondering if I am putting him through too much with the dental and maybe I should do that at another time. The vet who is going to perform the dental and lump removal I have met once before as she was the only one available at the time. She seemed really nice and I trust this clinic. They did the pre-blood work yesterday and I am just waiting on the results. He is my baby and if it is cancerous all the blame is on me for not getting it checked out sooner. I feel so guilty. This is going to be a costly bill as the insurance does not cover dental cleanings and I believe he needs at least one tooth extraction maybe more. The total with cleaning is $1900.00. I just applied for the care credit card to put this bill on as I am not sure what I will get reimbursed from the insurance yet. I will be a nervous wreck on Wednesday and until I get the biopsy results back. And to top it off his Cushing's numbers went up again so most likely that means an increase in medicine. We are re-testing in August at his annual physical and will make a determination then.

| It could also just be a sebaceous cyst that sometimes just burst and need to be removed. If it didn’t grow more then likely it’s not cancer. Both my oldest and my moms rescue had dentals at the same time as several bumps removed so it’s perfectly fine. Hope everything turns out ok. Keep us updated.

| Keeping you and Thumper in my prayers for all to go smoothly and for the lump to be benign. A lot of bumps do turn out to be nothing. Max has had cysts, including something looked like a BB pellet under his skin near his 'armpit.' That one lasted over a year and then disappeared. Another YT member's girl has had numerous biopsies. All turned out benign. I think Thumper will be okay having a dental at the same time. My boys both had their first dental last year at age 9. I was so nervous! They sailed through it like it was nothing.

| Don't blame yourself, we have to put our faith and confidence in our vets, the one you had said not to worry about it, he was your vet so you listened to him. You can't put this on yourself. My now passed girls use to get warts, they were remove when they had their dental work done, Thumper should be fine. Keeping you and lil Thumper in my thoughts and prayers.

| Thinking of you and Thumper. As others have said, don't feel guilty. It'll eat you up. My little guy had two lumps removed + dental and he was just fine; bumps were benign. Hugs. |

| I dropped Thumper off this morning. He is scheduled for surgery between 12-5 pm and they will call me when he is finished. Most likely he will have about 3-5 teeth extractions done. He has the cutest smile with his bottom buck teeth but unfortunately they are loose so the Vet thinks they might need to be extracted once she views the x-rays. The bump will be removed and biopsied which takes 3-5 days for results. There are two skin tags that will also be removed. He will need to be on wet food for the next 10-14 days while his gums heal according to the Vet so I need to get some for him as I only feed dry food. We will follow up with the vet in 10-14 days so they can re-check him and heal. This is such a different experience than the last time he had his teeth cleaned about 3 years ago. They didn't do any extractions and no follow up care. I was also never told to feed wet food for his gums to heal before. I can't say enough how much all your thoughts and comments on this thread has helped me relax. I am not nervous about the bump and believe it will be fine once removed. I will keep everyone updated once I have him home.

| No wet food was recommended on Thumpers first dental because you say no teeth were removed so it was a routine dental, no follow up was needed. It's been a long time for me since one of my now passed girls had teeth extracted, I don't recall having to go for a follow up tho. When Cody had his last dental no teeth were removed. We are all worrywarts when it comes to our furbabies and dentals. Anything that involves anesthesia is always worrisome. I think we humans suffer more than our fur babies lol. Keeping Thumper in my thoughts and prayers that lump is benign.

| Update I just heard from the technician. Thumper did fine. They ended up having to do 7 teeth extractions. They said mostly incisors and front teeth. Only one molar was removed. Poor baby. The lumps were removed and off for biopsy I will get the results in 3-5 days. I pick him up in an hour and can't wait to see him.

| Happy to hear Thumper is home and ate a bit, all good news. i hate those cones myself. I had gotten a blow up one, a waste of money, dog can still reach areas to be protected, so back went the lamp shade (cone).
