| Plasmacytoma Hi everyone I wrote in another post about a red bump I found on my Yorkie. It's located on his belly over the bottom of his rib cage. After a biopsy they found it was benign plasmacytosis. It's located in the skin and they recommended surgery, but I can't get any straight answers. First, has anyone had a dog who has had this and who has not had the surgery to remove it? I am confused, because they say it's benign and that it won't spread, but at the same time they recommend removal. Any help greatly appreciated. I want to do what's best for my little guy. I was shaking while waiting for them to give me the results over the phone. |

| What I was reading was saying that you have to be careful with them because if scratched they could bleed a lot and cause pain. I have had many bumps removed from my oldest, I normally do it at the same time as a dental but if a dental is not needed and won’t be for a long while I would just have it removed especially if that is what the vet recommends.

| thanks Thanks so much for your response. I am so nervous about this and still so undecided. I spoke to the vet again last night and it seems this is just too vague. He said that they did a needle aspiration of some cells that went to the lab, not a biopsy, and that the results were consistent with a plasmacytosis but that they could not be definite until they removed the lump and sent it out. That being said, he said that the results seemed to be benign, but again was they could not be definite based on the needle aspiration of the cells. The confusion comes from the fact that even if it I was definitely benign, he kept saying a small number of them could recur or spread, but if it's benign then I would think it would be harmless. Anyway, still very confused. I hear so many horror stories about putting a dog out and I am afraid to take the risk if unnecessary. I can't find any info about just leaving it alone. |

| I get how stressful it can be. My oldest has had to go under anesthesia for lots of surgeries and things and even knowing how safe it is never calms my nerves or anxiety.

| What's even more alarming is that all the people I know who have dogs and on this forum and FaceBook, no one has heard of it or knows what to do. |

| There are so many different types of bumps its hard for me personally to remember all of them. My moms rescue and my oldest have had skin tags and other different types of bumps removed.
