| Help/Guidance Needed Hello, I relatively new to this forum and have never posted. This is a little long... I'm reaching out in hopes someone might have some insight on what's happening with my 1yr old baby girl. Chloe has episodes of head shaking and lethargy. They don't happen all the time and we can't figure out what brings them on. We thought it was low blood sugar but her blood levels have all tested within normal range. A couple of weeks ago she actually had a seizure. We couldn’t wake her and she threw up overnight. She was unable to stand up and also for the first time she was twitching and jerking as if one was having a seizure. Her doctor recommended a specialist, who ruled out Liver Shunt but suspects a problem in the nervous system, possibly a malformation of the brain. They want to start her on anti-seizure medication 3/day. We gave her 1-dose but it made her so lethargic; I just can't continue without knowing for sure this is what she needs. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening? Can anyone recommend a vet who specializes in this breed? My husband and I are just beside ourselves... any advice is appreciated. |

| Maybe look at a neurologist. I would call whoever prescribed the medicine and tell them it’s making her lethargic. It sounds like she really needs the medicine though otherwise damage can be being done.

| Often anti-seizure meds result in lethargy for the first few doses. Then the dog acclimates to the meds and is OK. |

| I would get this pup to a neuro ASAP as this could be a Chiari & without prompt & proper treatment you could lose this dog. |

| Is there an update on this pup? Did you see a neurologist?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Definitely see a neurologist and get an xray of the entire spine. DO give the anti-seizure med - every single dose. Almost all seizure meds cause drowsiness at first (in people too), however, it's extremely important that you prevent her poor little body from any more seizures. Don't worry about tiredness - bc that's all it is - a side effect. You do want to worry about the possibility of more seizures bc they are far worse than being sedated. Please keep us posted.
