| Salary of Veterinary Tech I am thinking of going to school for Veterinary technician. Does any know the median cost it would be that someone can earn as a tech? I live in NYC so I assume it may be slightly higher due to cost of living. Thanks, Ashley

| I have no idea, but hope that Taylor, Lovetodream will reply as I think she has just become a Vet tech. Or perhaps PM her in case she doesn’t come on? Also is this the best thread to ask this question? |

| You really don’t make that much but normally get discounts on vet care. With the online programs you have to actually be working at a vet while taking them. You can become a certified tech by taking the classes or you can work at a vet that will teach you everything and you can be an uncertified tech. Your more likely to see more uncertified vet tech then certified ones. The general average is about $31,000 a year. It is a lot harder then you think. A LOT of memorization and not just all the abbreviations you have to know the skeletal system and the planes it is not easy.

| Thank you for your helpful post Taylor. I have learned from it too. Sorry you guys are not paid more, you are so worth it! Good that it helps with vet bills though...some consolation! |

| Thanks all this is really helpful. Wish I could work on that salary but living in NY that is too low. I was looking at switching professions and since I love animals thought going into the vetinary field might be worth it. |

| I have a dear friend who teaches at a university Vet techs and vet assistance have different education and educational certification. Vet techs make more money that vet assistance. Vet tech programs are often a 4 year BS degree. They work side by side but vet techs are quaified by certification to perform additional duties and responsibilities. I also understand that some vet assistance’s are certified and some aren’t .
