It looks like he vomited a little bit of liquid today while I was at work. I was able to come home for an hour during lunch and he hadn't had any diarrhea, but he vomited this afternoon after I went back to work. He seems to be feeling a bit better now. He is no longer shaking in pain and even showed interest in playing with his soccer ball outside today.

Must be a big relief to you! Scary stuff when they are that sick and the vet thinks it might be cancer. Yikes!

I guess I spoke too soon. Couver was pacing last night and wanted outside. His tummy was gurgling and he had loose stools several times throughout the night. He also vomited up two small piles of liquid. I went to give him breakfast and he had no interest at first. He is eating now, but I can tell he's not feeling well.

I am going to call the vet today to determine the next steps we need to take. Maybe he needs some Cerenia to keep things down? I don't know... I will see what she has to say

I think that he should be admitted to a hospital for supportive care and a proper diagnosis. Demand it of your vet, he's your dog and you can say you want him to be admitted for more aggressive supportive care. Maybe a day or two on IVF and meds will nip this, or he needs an internist. This could go really bad on you. I hope you're not upset with me for being so vocal here but I felt I had to say it.

Oh no, poor little baby . Something is definitely wrong here, and I wish you had a good diagnosis. I'd take him back in to the vet bc this just doesn't seem to be getting better. You must be worried sick.

I have been a bit hesitant here, but I am very concerned Michelle. I do think it sounds like he should be in a 24 hour hospital and evaluated by a specialist. Something is not right. It is around two weeks now...way too long for these symptoms to go on.

Michelle, I am praying that the vet gets to the source of what is going on with dear Couver.

My Bentley had a few days of running poop that smelled like "what the cat dragged in". He would get me up in the middle of the night having to go and I would have to clean him up as it was pure diarrhea shooting out. His stomach would gurgle also. He didn't have the vomiting though.

My vet had put him on Metradozanole (sp?) and on Prescription Science Diet Z/D. It took a while for it to clear up and I have kept him on the prescription food ever since. Just a thought from me.

I so hope Couver can get the help he needs and gets better soon.

Poor Couver! I am very sorry to hear he is still sick. Praying the doctors can get this figured out once and for all and get him healthy again.

I want to thank everyone here for helping me through this. I don't want anyone to hold back for fear of hurting my feelings.

I called the vet because I haven't had a chance to pick up his bloodwork. I asked about his levels and the tech was able to let me know which levels were low:

Alkphos levels were low- 16 (normal levels are 23-214)
Cholesterol was also low- 96 (normal is 110-320)
Glucose was low because of the vomiting
Protein was slightly low- 4.6 (normal levels are 5.2-?)

I am going to discuss the next steps with my vet and the need to figure out if we are going to take him to the WSU vet that is a few hours away from us. We have heard very good things about the teaching hospital and might be taking him there this weekend.

It is time to admit & support him with fluids, stronger nausea meds, get his nausea/vomiting under control and calm down his ongoing gastroenteritis with stronger drugs he can be given IH and get him comfortable, under less stress from chronic suffering. Further testing is needed to see if something else is going on with him causing this gastroenteritis though gastroenteritis is a hard bugger to defeat sometimes, especially if treatment is a little inadequate in any part of the protocol.

Little Couver has been a little trooper through all of this and I'm praying he'll get well ASAP once they get him IH. And while he's IH, maybe you can get some much-needed rest since you are likely a wreck by now, too. I'm praying for both of you but especially little Couver.

Those levels are not that bad. Do you know what his Albumin (protein) was??

I have been reading this thread and am very sad that your little guy is so ill. I pray that someone will find out what is wrong with him. Poor baby having to go through this and you too. Too stressful.

I refrained from saying anything.....some people think I am too quick to hospitalize/specialists/vet schools....As an ICU nurse of many, many years, I do not like pitzing around, with doctors or vets, trying this, trying that....meanwhile, I am unsettled, anxious, wanting answers, and the poor pup is sick. I want to know what the problem is! Give me answers or find me someone that will! That is me.....I feel I do need to advise you to go with the suggestion above....aggressive supportive care and a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan that is readily adjusted for an effective outcome.

The only thing I would change in your sentence structure here is, " I am going to tell my vet I will be taking Couver to WSU, if I need a referral, get on the phone and take care of that for me...meanwhile, you can send all his records to WSU today so they will have them when we get there"!

I am praying for you as well as your baby boy.....it just kills me when one of mine gets sick....I would be absolutely CRAZY YORKIE LADY HAS COME COMPLETELY UNSPOOLED!!!!! I am sitting here on a keg of dynomite, anxiously waiting to hear what transpires at WSU......
