| YT Addict | Hello all - I just wanted to keep you updated on Miss Tink. We saw her regular vet last Thursday for a re-check. Her blood sugar was at 62, which they say is good, for her. They faxed her blood work info to the specialist, who decided he wanted to see her for a follow up. (This had me worried, I had thought he had seen something in the blood work for concern). So we went for an appointment with the specialist today. It was a long day. We had to leave the house around 6am, to get to her appointment at 9:30. She doesn't mind the car ride, I think she enjoys it actually, as long as I'm there with her . My mom couldn't go with me today, so my aunt went with us. I am SO SO lucky and blessed to have such caring family members... my mom and my step mom text me quite often to see how she is doing. Her appointment was short and sweet, and the specialist tested her blood sugar and it was at 72 he said. for her, it's good. So, we are going to continue the medication the way it is for another 2 weeks, then move to every 3rd day with the Palladia, with us checking her sugar every 2-3 days or so. Then a re-check with the specialist in about 1.5 months. I inquired about surgery again, and the specialist says almost always the tumors come back... I just wish there was a guarantee with it. I keep second guessing myself, but my mom says that she is happy and comfortable, so she doesn't think we should do surgery, which does make sense. I've read accounts where people have the surgery, only for it to return 1 month or two later. Others have years, but their dog was younger. Plus, recovery (which she does not do well with) and her being separated from me, I just don't think that's what she would want... The specialist seemed happy with the fact she hasn't shown any side effects with the Palladia. She seems to have more effects with the Prednisone, so I'm glad she only has to take it once a day. She has actually peed in her sleep 3 times... this really freaked me out at first, but after researching, this is normal since it increases urination so much .But, she is eating well every 4 hours, and seems happy and comfortable - which is all I care about. In the meantime, I found a book that I read that has put my mind at ease a bit - "Biblical Proof Dog's Go To Heaven" by Steven H. Woodward, I read it in one evening. I have been struggling immensely with all of this, and really wanted to be in a better place of mind to be around my little girl. I don't want her to see me sad, or crying all of the time, I want to be able to be happy around my little girl. On the ride home today, I played Christmas music on the radio, and something was telling me that Tink really liked it, I don't know why, I just had a feeling. When I got home, I turned on Christmas music for her while I'm at work. Thank you for your prayers - prayer works!!! Tink |

| YT Addict | She is doing great! If you didn't know, you wouldn't even think anything was wrong. She has her energy, and is eating and everything well. We checked her blood sugar on Saturday, and it was at 74 (and she hadn't eaten in about 4 hours, so this is good). We are going to re-check it this evening, then again this weekend to make sure they are in a good range so we can go to every 3rd day on the Palladia. Then, we have a recheck with the specialist Jan. 19th. I am so looking forward to spending the holidays with my little girl, I will be off Christmas Day through Jan. 2, and I'm so thankful for that and will spend every minute I can with her. Thank you all for keeping Tink in your thoughts and prayers - we're so thankful! |

| YT Addict | Hello all, I just wanted to give a little update on Miss Tinkerbell. We hope you all had a great holiday . Tink is doing well - I was lucky to have off work from dec. 25 - jan. 4 and I loved being able to spend as much time as I could with her. I got really spoiled on this break, being able to spend so much time with her - but at least I can come home on my lunch break everyday, the longest I am away from home is 8:00-noon, I am so thankful I live close to work. Her blood sugar is staying in a good range(80-40s when we check) and her doctors say that is good (for her). I took her for a nail trim at her vet's and the vet and techs said, "She looks good!", yay! I often forget anything is wrong with her, since she acts happy. I hope that maybe we caught it early... We have a recheck with her specialist Jan 19, and hopefully they will give us good news. In the meantime, she is happy, eating well, and seems to be doing good - which is all that I can ask for. I started mixing chicken in with her canned food to encourage her to eat for her 3:30 am feeding, which has turned into "chicken every meal" . I am now a part of a "Dogs with Insulinoma" group on Yahoo, where people share information about dogs they have, or have had that have struggled with this disease. It's such a vague disease, but there are many pups who have lived well on years on medical management. I am feeling better about not doing surgery, as people have mentioned the tumor returned a month later, or the recovery was not good for their pup. If she was younger, I would consider more, but going on 11 is rather up there for an invasive surgery without guarantee. Instead, we are going to make her as comfortable as possible, and medication appears to be working well so far, which I pray can continue. Thank you all for keeping Tink in your thoughts and prayers, I'm going to try and get some pics uploaded on here - best wishes to you all and your pups! Much love, Tinkerbell ![]() |
