| Help! My little Winston is really sick! Hi all, I'm hoping someone here can give me some insights on this. I'm putting a thread here and on the general health section... Winston is 17 weeks old, 3.2 lbs, we just got him on 9/28/14. He's been a great little guy, very frisky and happy. Last night, we were on the couch and he started shaking and twisting his head very oddly, had trouble walking and was just completely out of it. We took him to the emergency vet center and they kept him---iv fluids, blood panel (will know more about that shortly). They gave him a charcoal pill and he threw part of it up. His temp was 104. This morning she said he's better but not back to normal. During the night his temp got down to 101, then went back up to 102.5. He won't eat anything, so I'm taking some of his food up there in a few minutes to see if he'll eat that. The vet also said for me to come see him to see if that perks him up. Have you experienced anything like this, and/or have ANY idea what it could be? We're all stumped and grasping for straws to try to help him. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | First of all welcome, we do understand that worry for our pups! Your puppy is in the right place for the vets and specialists to sort through what may be wrong. One obvious thing is could he have eaten or gotten into anything he should not have? You can scour your home, to look for half eaten wrappers, any medication that might have fallen to the floor? No ant traps around? No pesticides? Could he have gotten into chewing gum? Household plants - any chewed off leaves? No recent falls? Had he just finished eating when he started with his symptoms? Did you change his diet at all? Gave some human food he was not used to? Had he had a recent set of vaccinations? If so what kinds and were they given on the same day? Let us know how he does ...... And my very best hopes that this is just a passing sickness. Try not to worry too much until you hear from the docs!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh gosh, how very scary - I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. It's so tough to say what this could be bc the symptoms are quite diverse in terms of where they could land. With yorkies and disorientation, you automatically think of hypoglycemia and liver shunt...but w/ the fever, not so sure. Make sure they check his ears VERY thoroughly for any foreign body/bug/ear infection bc he had some imbalance and was moving his head funny. Please do keep us posted on this precious little one.

| I really wish an update would be done. She was just on-line almost an hour ago and didn't even update at all. I hate when nothing is ever updated.

| Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for not updating! Hi all, first please accept my apology for not updating you on little Winston. He is recovering from whatever toxic thing he got into....spent a couple of night in the hospital with IV fluids & detox meds. We have an appointment tomorrow afternoon at the vet, but he does seem to be back to normal now. What a scare! And unfortunately we don't know what he got that gave him such a reaction, so it's hard to prevent it happening again. We keep a real clean house but I've scoured the kitchen floors/baseboards, & deep cleaned everything I can get my hands on. The vet said maybe he got a mushroom sprout so we've raked and cleaned his outside potty area. Probably a fluke but we just want to do whatever we can to keep him from having to go through this again EVER. Thank you all so very much for your concern, and again I'm sorry I got caught up in this drama and life (which strangely continued in spite of this) and didn't update you. Hugs to all, Marsha |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I am so thankful little Winston is all right. I was really scared reading your post and getting ready to send some prayer over to you. These Yorkies do get into stuff. Also you have to beware of some idiot poisoning your dog by throwing something over the fence. My neighbor had this happen to her. Not all people love dogs which is a shame. I am happy Winston is fine and it is a wake up call to all of us to watch what is left out. Yorkies are very curious dogs! |
