| Hi, I am a proud parent of purebred Yorkies since the 80's. I have 6 now. But I have had many that have passed since then. I saw your post and my heart sank, because I know how it feels and I have been there with one of my girls. They are not our pets, they are our children. They are the breed I love, the only breed I have ever had since a child, and my lifelong devotion started early. What has the vet said to you? The same happened to me with one of my girls but she was much older. That means nothing, however. It matters how far along they are, what other medical conditions they have, and other factors too. My thoughts are with you and your boys. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Hi, I am so sorry about your baby. My 8 year old Pixie is in the diagnostic phase of determining is she has PLN ( a serious kidney disease). She has extremely high blood pressure and protein in her urine. She is still eating but is very depressed. I know how you feel, it is devastating. Are you seeing a kidney specialist? If not it may be beneficial to consult with one. I will keep your baby in my prayers.

| Had an amazing Yorkie named Puddin' who had renal failure from age 7 to 12 years old. She lived a great life those last years and just got weaker toward the end. Her renal failure was probably due to the massive amounts of medication she took when she had necrotising encephalitis. I can tell you in her case the progression was slow and she was in no pain (I would not have allowed that). We spent some wonderful times together even when she was weak ,cuddling and floating in the pool. I treasure those times still. It is difficult of course. Losing the ones we love always is. Just know that you were a good Yorkie mommy and see to all of her needs. Puddin', did not eat well but she would when I hand fed her. I think it was more important to her that she make me happy by eating what I offered to her than her desire to eat. Best of luck to you and your baby.

| Hi, I just wanted to say I'm sorry you and your baby are going through this. One of my boys is in kidney failure too so I know how you feel. It's a horrible disease. Bear takes Azodyl too and is on sub q fluids and Zantac for nausea. If you haven't started your boy on fluids yet, that may be something you want to talk to your vet about. They should be able to teach how to do it at home yourself. My boy wouldn't eat the low protein diet either so I feed him whatever he wants. One day he will eat one food really well and the next day he doesn't want any part of it so I have to try something else. I keep several different kinds in the house to give him a variety. Good luck to you and your baby. I hope he's feeling better soon. |

| When pups are in renal failure they often do not have appetites. You might ask your vet if perhaps Mirtazapine will help. One of my renal failure pups a few years back was put on it and he wanted to eat everything but the kitchen sink! It was amazing because prior to that he would not eat anything. Mirtazapine helps with the nausea and vomiting and increases the appetite. You also could do a consult with a vet nutritionist and do some home cooking. That is something else I did with him. I am sorry you are dealing with this....renal failure is difficult. But sometimes they do well for a period of time...really depends on where they are and also how they respond to treatment.
