| Gut Problem Hello everyone, I have a 2 year old yorkie (female) who is experiencing gut problems. She has thrown up thrown up blood and has blood in her stool. My vet thinks it is possibly pancreatitis caused by food. As of now my dog is on a bland chicken and rice diet as well as taking 50 mg metronidazole. This is her second bout and she seems to improve on some days but has set backs on other days. If she does not improve the vet recommended doing a scope of her gut. Has anyone else gone through this? Does anyone know if there's a vet that specializes in yorkies in the Denver area? Thanks a lot for the responses. |

| Denver, Colorado Veterinarians & Specialists - Dog-Friendly Listings the Alameda VCA hospital looks good...look through the list and see if any appeal to you. You could also ask your vet? They won't be offended!

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sorry your little one is ill. Has your vet done blood tests? Here is a good place to start looking for a AAHA accredited vet: AAHA Healthy Pet | Pet Hospital Search You may also want to consider going to a specialist or vet school hospital. I hope someone has a local recommendation for you. There is a wide range of potential causes for vomiting blood. Here is some information from petMD: Quote:

| Have they done the CPL snap test and other blood work to see if the liver or other pathology is involved? Is she on meds for nausea and diarrhea besides the Metro? My Tibbe had suspected pancreatitis last year but turned out his CPL was normal then and this year after a scintigraphy and abdominal sono after a positive BAT, it really was his liver and he's a probable MVD(microvascular dysplasia) patient, being treated with low protein diet. His symptoms weren't severe enough to do a diagnostic liver biopsy to confirm the MVD but every vet he's seen thinks that's what he's got as he quit being sick and having diarrhea once his diet was changed. If it is pancreatitis, treats, her diet and whatever she eats such as even an occasional tidbit from the table and things like that will likely have to change/stop. Once in a great while in the past, I would let Tibbe have a bite of pepperoni sausage from a pizza until he got sick. No more! Since last year, all his treats are homemade from his special dog food so he doesn't get sick and he only eats his special diet and is now healthy again.

If you are able to rule out pancreatitis with the cPL test, then you'll know to investigate further to find the cause of the blood in the vomit and stool. I hope your baby is already feeling better. Diana and Scooby | |
