| Sore paw or luxating patella? Or...? Hi all! Inexperienced poster here... My sweet little lilah is almost nine months old and has never shown any signs of lameness or any other ill thrift. We live in the country and lilah is primarily an indoor dog. Today however, the kids and I took a picnic in a shady forested area with our sheep and we brought lilah along. Everything seemed to be going fine, she barked at a few sheep and my young middle schooler scooped her up a few times (mature responsible daughter for the most part) and after a while I asked her to walk lilah up to the house and put her in her x pen. I hiked up the hill within ten minutes and walked inside, lilah ran up to join me happy as a clam but holding up her front right leg. I was horrified, I examined the leg and joints for swelling or apperant injury and saw nothing. I do not see anything in the paw either. I even bathed her to make sure I saw everything. I see nothing. I will watch for swelling, heat, redness or notable pain and take her to the vet first thing in the morning if she is still favoring it or if any additional signs/symptoms come up. She is not thrilled when I am messing with he leg but seems her normal self otherwise. Foot injury or the beginning of a lifetime with knee problems?

| First I want to welcome you to YT. Glad to have you.. This is her front leg? Luxtating patella is usually in the back leg, the knee cap will slip in and out of the joint. Anyway- I see this w as yesterday.. are you taking her into the Vet today? Has her leg gotten any better?

| Hi Deanna thank you for responding! I do realize that luxating patella is normally a back leg issue and so was going as far to torture myself with thoughts of legg calves perthe disease (however you spell that) However, as of this morning she seems almost back to normal. She is not holding it high up in the air like she was last night and she is putting her paw what appears to be fully down when she stands but I can tell she is still favoring it slightly. Beside sleeping a little extra last night she is behaving super normal emotionally/personality wise. I did call the vet though and am going to bring her by for drop in hours at two to take a peek. Thank you for writing back, I will let you know what they say.

| Hi and welcome to YT. Buster came from a poor breeding program so he has arthritis in his front wrists diagnosed by a Orthopedic specialist when he was about your baby's age. They were concerned that it they were malformed because he also has LP in his back legs, but decided it was arthritis. I try to keep him from jumping up/down off of furniture, stairs, the porch as much as I can. The Ortho Vet said jumping down causes more issues for the front and jumping up for the back. You might want to look into joint supplements to help. On a lighter note Lilah may have just injured herself slightly and only needs to rest the leg. I would recommend having a Vet look at her if she persist in lifting her paw or not weight bearing on it as that is a sign of pain. Surgery is not cheap so you may want to look into getting pet insurance before the condition is diagnosed because once it is diagnosed it is a preexisting condition and will not be covered. Best wishes I hope it was only a slight sprain and rest is all she needs.

| Whew, okay. So I guess I was just being neurotic! She obviously did something to it yesterday but by the time we got to the vet today she didn't have a trace of anything going on. I sure hope it is not a precursor to something more serious though.I was reading Lilly dogs post about a hurt paw and I guess I was especially freaked out because I didn't see any debri in my girls Paw or a cut or- anything! I guess she could have bruised her paw. Makes me think of peanuts owner posting back wishing he would wear shoes. Perhaps I should consider shoes for miss lilah. I think I made a really good choice with her breeder. She was very responsible and thorough with a well documented history of her lineage and recent show history in her lines but things can still show up that are more recessive even if a responsible person has been intentionally breedingbout common poor traits within the breed. So far lilah has been a gem and really been an excellent specimen of the breed from her bold personality to her quick little mind. I actually had planned to show lilah, I still would like to pursue that path but I have been surprisingly caught by the well known but perhaps disbelieved trap of her amazing charm and instead of diligent show prep it is cuddles, squeaky toys and treats, lol. Yes she knows how to work it! Thank you ladies for your concern, it was nice to have a community to reference while I poured through books scaring myself about detrimental disorders. Hugs to all
