| Ann thanks for posting the pictures. I didn't even know what a brown recluse looks like. From what I hear they will pretty much leave you alone unless you startle them. My vet said she lost a dog to a brown recluse spider bite and someone on a Bichon forum I belong to just lost a dog to a brown recluse bite. The key is recognizing that it is a spider bite and getting thrm to the vet quickly. Fortunately, it seems like the vet got all the venom out before it could spread. After they squeezed out the nasty stuff they thoroughly cleaned the wound. Daisy and Teddy Bear didn't seem to have any neurological problems. We were very blessed.

| I just had pest control come to the house and asked him if brown recluse spiders are here in S. Florida. He said they are fairly rare but more than likely wouldn't be in my house. They like very dark, wet areas. The only place they would be is in my garage after it rains. I haven't seen any, but at least now I know what to look out for. I have no idea what bit Max.

| My vet just said it was a spider bite of some sort. Nothing yucky came out of the middle. Ew. Max's bite had a whitish center and now it seems to be turning black and getting crusty. Hopefully that is what is supposed to happen! We have a vet f/u tomorrow.

Only a few years ago people were saying the brown recluse and the pictures of bites on humans were an internet hoax. I wish that had been the case.

| How scary! Poor little Teddy Bear, so glad to hear that he is doing better. It sounds like he was one lucky Yorkie dude with a very observant mom who knew when to go to the vet! Brown recluse are really the "bad boys" in the spider family. I don't have any personal experience with them but I do know people who have had encounters with the brown recluse and have had to have extensive surgery to remove dead tissue. |

| Well Zach seems to be doing a bit better. He's eating and drinking okay but he has a problem with going to the bathroom because the wound is right on his tail. Today he did pooh for the first time in almost a week. The vet says that this is because he has to position his tail to go and right now his tail is very sore. His tail seems to be healing but it's so ugly to look at. I can't wait until he heals so I can take the stupid collar off him. |
