Just now reading this. Am so glad teddy is going to be ok. I need to show these pictures to my daughter, she was telling me today her silky all of a sudden has an open wound on top of his head. I know they have brown recluse spiders in their garage.

Thank you to everyone who posted! Nana, I hope your daughter's silky didn't get a brown recluse bite. It seems worrysome that these things are biting our dogs. One of Teddy Bear's favorite things to do in life is to lay in the grass and guard his yard. I am trying to get him to lay on one of his cots instead of in the grass now. I don't think I will ever be able to stop worrying about him when he is out there now.

I'm just reading your post and the photo looks just like the bite Zach got on his tail this weekend. We took him to the emergency hospital on Saturday but he couldn't see anything. He sent him home with meds and a collar. Yesterday we took him to our vet who thought it might be a bee sting or a mosquito bite that he infected. We were taking his collar off to give him a break but the vet warned us not to remove the collar no matter what. Today it seems like it was drying up a little bit.
Well I'm glad Teddy Bear is doing better and I hope Zach heals as good as Teddy Bear.

How on earth did I miss this thread??!

I noticed a bump on Max last week. After a lot of medical drama he was finally properly diagnosed with a spider bite and severe allergic reaction! It did look very similar to your photos. Wish I had seen this sooner!!

Thank you, Lexi. I sure hope that Zach is on the road to healing. This is so scary and I can't tell you how much I worried about my little boy. Once Teddy Bear's wound started drying up it formed a scab pretty quickly and healed. So I sure hope that Zach will heal quickly now. Please let us know how he is doing.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I have to say the day I found out he was bitten by a brown recluse was one of the worst days in my life. I was soooo worried about him.

Your welcome. I am hoping that if anyone sees a wound like this they will get their pup to the vet right away. We were so lucky.

Oh no. I hope Max is ok. Please keep us posted. I can't figure out why our pups are suddenly getting bit by spiders. I am checking my shoes before I put them on and wearing gloves outside when I am around plants. Today I hozed out their dog house just to be sure. My vet told me yesterday that she had a friend who was bit on the neck by a recluse when she was pulling something out of the back of her closet and a spider fell on her. She went to the doctor right away but she did not survive. She said she didn't want to tell me that when Teddy Bear was in for his spider bite. I'm glad she didn't. I was worried enough without knowing that.

Thank you so much. I am too. I have never seen a dog look so mizerable as he did. It heart my heart. I literally couldn't stop crying.

Well thank goodness you did the right thing and went to the vet asap. There are way too many people who just do the wait and see method.

Omg, that bite looks *so* horrible!! So nasty! Poor baby!

Aren't recluse bites super toxic? If so, did you notice any neuro or other symptoms? I would think some spiders' venom could quickly overwhelm a little yorkie system.

I'm attaching some pics of the recluse so people can recognize it....
